  1. Please tell me you're insuring your equipment in the event of a fire (or theft).
  2. I found a very, very old bag of Santa Maria Pinquitos hiding in the back of my pantry last week. Soaked them for about 18 hours and then cooked them forever but they're beyond saving.

  5. It's interesting you say that because I think there's a problem with the recipe for I Woke Up Like 'Dis. It was tart to the point of being unpleasantly bitter. In discussions I've had elsewhere the consensus is that I should try reducing the lemon juice to .5 oz.
  6. As I'm sure most of you know (because you received the email this morning) Astor is running a 15% off sale on all American made liquors and spirits today. Needless to say, I bought more gin. Because I only have 8 bottles (and some other stuff). I have NO idea where I'm going to put all this stuff.
  7. Have you considered that maybe the alcohol from the gin had an impact on the quick melt? Thanks for the recipe. As I read it I realized that I can take my margarita sorbet recipe and swap the tequila with gin.
  8. Spouse deals with the credit card paying. Because of his job there's nothing he likes more than reading the fine print of credit card statements and contracts. He's built multiple cases off of the banks' "failure to disclose."
  9. I Woke Up Like 'Dis 1.5 oz gin 1 oz lemon juice 1 oz ginger syrup 2 dashes lime bitters (I used grapefruit) Shake with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with lemon peel. Meh. I don't think I'll be making this again.

  14. Where do you keep your ID? Because really, with your set up that's the only thing you need. 24 years ago I was headed to Chicago for a business trip. I ran out of the office and forgot my purse - which I realized when I arrived to check in. In my case, I had taken a black car so I didn't need my wallet. If it wasn't for requiring ID I would have have traveled without my wallet - I was meeting up with colleagues who could have expensed everything for me. But alas, they wouldn't let me check in so I had to grab a cab back into midtown. (the good thing about traveling to Chicago is if you miss your flight you can always catch the next one an hour later).
