Apparently I saw The Beatles when I was too small to remember. Seriously. Romford Odeon, 1963.
  2. Larry McMurtry and he had, at time of writing, 28,000 books. Got me beat there. I wouldn't say "angry," but I know what he means.
  3. No spoiler necessary for episode seven where the inevitable pro-viral dance happens with Enid and Agnes; I am sure people will love it but not going to repeat the insane love for Jenna and The Cramps (not Lady Gaga, internet, The Cramps).
  4. Still two and a half weeks until Brooklyn. 🙁
  5. Today is the one year anniversary of the release of "Viva Hinds" and therefore Happy Viva Hinds Day. Not yet an international holiday.

Jealous. Spent hours listening to that stuff, from the Fillmore album on.
  7. It was because the Strand had (has?) a stack of discounted copies of for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf (I read it a while ago but had not owned it) that I was prompted to see what else of Ntozake Shange's work was in my library. Oh, they have four novels (including a long one co-written with her sister). Start at the beginning: Sassafrass, Cypress & Indigo. It's really good, especially the character of Indigo, a strange young girl who is an improbable self-taught violin prodigy -- a bit of magical realism there. Why is Shange really only known for that one poem/play? You can get used copies of these novels online for pennies.
  8. I remember Go Down Moses very well, but I will take a second look at both of those. Thanks. Halfway through the Bratya now.
  9. Wednesday Season 2. The second half of the season (four episodes) dropped a few days ago. The second of those episodes, episode 6 overall, is breathtaking. I think at this point a lot of the plot is driven by Burton and the writers understanding the ridiculous talent they have available. No spoiler here. The episode hinges on a specific plot twist. It's what Ortega and Myers are able to do with it, in such precise detail, that makes it amazing. I am awestruck. (I would say, if you only watch one episode of Wednesday, make it this one, but the truth is you would need to have seen other episodes to understand why it's so great.)

Remembering the first pop/rock album I ever bought, Electric Warrior. They were on that too.

Oh no, I liked them. Howard Kaylan still with us, same age.
  13. You're right, I remember that place. I can't see any record of it on my May 2016 trip which make me think I've been to Atlanta subsequently, but who knows when? I could place the May 2016 trip easily because it was the first work trip after my hip replacement that March.

  15. I was frustrated enough to dig through my old written records and the restaurant I was thinking of was Miller Union. Still open and fits the Bonner requirements, but of course Evelyn will have much more up-to-date knowledge. Coincidentally my research revealed that in the previous month I saw Lupita Nyong'o in her Broadway debut, "Eclipsed." And nine years later is she is doing Shakespeare in the Park.
  16. I was last in Atlanta in 2016, so unless it was some later inquiry, well before the cyber attack. I know I went to a nice restaurant. Recovering the name, however...
  17. Signed up to Spotify and I was asked to identify three artists I liked. I went for Hinds, Don Cherry and Burning Spear. Interesting scatter of recommendations.
  18. The Roux is $385 for the grub, drinks not included, I don't know about gratuity. I would be doing it out of nostalgia for Le Gavroche. But I won't be doing it.
  19. And the rain coming down and the breeze blowing. So nice. (Of course I am indoors and not expecting a severe weather event.)
  20. I just saw Only Murders season 5 arrives on September 5. Always worth it. The endless parade of high profile guest stars is a little wearying as I am only watching it for Martin Short and Selena Gomez. Sorry Steve.
  21. Thank you!
  22. Certainly Angel's Share was the first serious cocktail bar I ever found in this city.
  23. Thank you thank you. I wondered about the Confederate White House. Recommended but kind of creepy?
  24. New music landing 9/9. ❤️
  25. I might be choosing between Richmond and Detroit by flipping a coin (although Richmond is a little warmer in the fall). Anyway, for your kindly review. (No, I won't get to more than a few restaurants or bars, and location may be determinative -- who knows where I'll be staying?) Restaurants: Restaurant Adarra; L’Opposum; The Roosevelt; Alewife; Grisette; Lemaire; Amuse Bars: Grandstaff and Stein; Harry’s at Hoffmeier; Fanboy; The Jasper; Heritage; Black Lodge Museums: VMFA; VMH&C; Black History Museum; Arts District Other: Maymont; Poe Museum
