What happened to the “Indian lady” who drifted from restaurant to restaurant followed slavishly by hounds?
-
I am sure you knew that I was parodying the coverage, not that I know where the arepas are. The funniest thread on the original Mouthfuls was Orik’s on the arepa lady. I do recall fantastic jerk chicken in a small family place and a slightly larger place, both around Broadway near Broadway Junction. I don’t travel for it as I clearly do for head cheese.

Is there a bun or is there not a bun, are there martini leftovers and if so why, and what the hell is scary about a hot dog? Don’t stare at me, I’m not going out there first.

The link: https://www.grubstreet.com/article/frog-club-nyc-opening-first-impressions.html Entertaining piece.

Right, I mix up my diet of Kaurismäki, Rogosin and Kieslowski with epsiodes of Below Deck.

Well, there goes the magic.

Who needs the arepa lady (and where is she anyway) when we have a (future Nobel laureate) dosa king? https://www.instagram.com/p/C4a3EcyL5kv/?igsh=MWlnbDk5MnF2MWdreg==

I thought I posted about this already. I still have a copy of “Fresh Raspberries” an amazing powerpop album.

And all her other followers.

They were posting on IG looking a little soporific down at SXSW so I reminded Ana where she needs to be.

Yeah, I told her not come round no more.

Yuet Lee, nearly 50 year old family owned place on a small corner on Broadway. Signature salt and pepper squid, all crunch, and bubbling pork and oyster hot pot. Huge oysters (could have been rinsed better). With Tsingtao $40 and the hot pot could have been shared. IMG_0086.mov

Sam Wo closes early but planning an old Cantonese place.

I know it’s a little more than four years since I was last here; more disturbingly, I must have first drunk here in 1997 or 98, and there weren’t no tourists. Packed now with young people drinking Mai Tais.

Another lovely day. IMG_0078.mov

My original plan had been to do late tacos, but I came out of the theater about 10 and now there's an ice cold wind blowing and my coat is not heavy so I jumped right on the BART.

When food takes second place to other pursuits. The dance performance tonight was great but long and followed by a brief discussion. Got back from the Mission late enough that restaurants around Union Square were closed. So foot long at the Cable Car Lounge (and I wish I had a tape measure 😉).

The room is nice, the service is sweet and I was reminded that the staff is really impressively diverse. The food will not excite you, but there's nothing wrong with it. Although it's plated and garnished differently, it made me think of Cecchi's. Solid work, you know? (If I compared it with Foxface or Francie I would be unhappy, so I tried not to.) Kayla Farrish's opening night tonight. Very excited. I saw an earlier version of this at La Mama last year.

After reserving Boulevard I realized I had eaten there before. It’s pleasant; the composition and plating of the dishes just feels a little old fashioned. Amuse: burrata with capers, endive and potato chip to scoop it. Sweetbreads and shrimp tempura, then quail with very large (presumably rehydrated) quail-stuffed morels. Cheese. Set price for three selected courses $119. Seemed reasonable but oh can I get the check up there with champagne, Cornas etc.

Lucky with the weather. Beautiful day here. SFMoMA most of the morning then a hike through the Tenderloin to the eponymous museum. This was great: https://www.sfmoma.org/exhibition/zanele-muholi-eye-me/
