Oh jeez are we competing for the last of the sausage?
-
Thank you, I was looking at the menu which is great but hadn’t heard any personal references in ages.
-
Very cool. I have never been to a Scandinavian country. I am ashamed to say.
-
You are right. I have been thinking about how much Mozart sausage could I store in my freezer, but really how much will they make and have to sell? I will go out there one more time and then I guess let go.

I saw the whole thing (uncooked) on IG. Impressive.

I am not citing WikiP as definitive, but clearly there are divergent opinions on this: Emphasis added, and the statement isn't restricted to the UK.

I nearly moved to Ridgewood once and that would have been a big reason. That will be an irreplaceable loss. (I have told the story before but I was going to take over a little flat as a pied-a-terre from my beautiful vegan friend - who Sneak has met - and she hadn’t even noticed Morscher’s five minutes away.)

Yes indeed.

I think Wiki is right for once: You certainly can't leave out the Germans. (Also the Dutch: Focus.) Wiki mentions The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Mothers of Invention, Spirit, Rush, Todd Rundgren. I might list Jefferson Airplane ahead of the Dead.

To my amazement I haven’t been to SF since 2019. I used to visit once or twice a year. I have a very short trip coming up and I am looking for one fairly special occasion restaurant. Not a nosebleed expensive tasting, but nice. Suggestions welcomed. (In the city. I am not going to take a car somewhere.)

I was pleased to see the piece on Trouser Press and Ira Robbins. Okay, so let's gripe about it: I can imagine that the term "prog" was more a U.K. term than a U.S. term (correct me if I'm wrong), but the assertion that these were British genres is jaw-dropping. The other two thirds, I assume, are vinyl 45s or perhaps shellac 78s. Either that, or someone thinks we should refer to CDs as "records." But what a tough fix, what is a sub-editor supposed to do? How about replace "records" with "albums"?

I ordered three new bookcases. For some reason, one came Saturday, the others on Tuesday. First one I unpacked. All pieces present plus two little plastic bags of screws and nails. Screws for the shelves so I put the thing together. The nails are to attach the back. Where have the nails gone? I know they're here; it's not like I took them somewhere to show them the sights. They should be in this very room. Can't find them.

I wonder if the writer could translate the name of the place into English. At least they got that it’s French.

Ham, cheese and tomato sandwich. More exciting than it sounds (for me, anyway) because this was on low-carb bread from the local supermarket, and Keto-friendly bread is now good enough that it's indistinguishable from real bread. I mean just regular, sliced bread, not high-end, fancy artisanal bread.

Right, is it greatest of all time biryiani, or was a quadruped involved? 😅

Emmys: Carol Burnett looks that good at 90?
-
You can go down an endless rabbit hole of their old clips on YouTube. I had forgotten how good they were, but I think I can be forgiven as I was watching them as a child. How did they get sidelined by comedy history?
-
I will probably watch the Emmys, but not for the first time the classifications seem weird. Take comedy. The Bear is funny? Jeremy Allan White is a comic actor? Poker Face, with all those brutal murders? Yes, there are funny scenes in Wednesday, but a comedy series? To me, The Honeymooners is a comedy series. Wednesday is actually quite dark.

Jodie never lets me down. I didn’t realize this was now available. 😊

$45 for soup and a sandwich. I don't think so. -
Service was outstanding. One criterion is that my wine orders by the glass appeared as the relevant food arrived; no hanging around. Generally, it meets its proffer. It's an attractive (although dimly lit) space with a this-is-where-it's-happening feel about it. Attractive people, happy to be there. It was buzzing on a Sunday night, which my server said was unusual. Holiday weekend, presumably. The menu, yes limited, and the food solid rather than ambitious. And I think that's exactly right for this crowd. They are not in search of kangaroo. Beet salad, with nice candied walnuts, followed by slabs of medium-rare calves liver, fried onions, slab bacon and mashed potatoes. Nicely done. No dessert, but champagne, a couple of BTG wines, a Calvados and coffee, $160 before tip. Which these days is about right.

I will always think of her as Betty Rubble.

My server at Cecchi’s tonight actually remembered me from when she worked at Cafe Loup. The guy at the end of the bar nursing a martini. I never ate at Cafe Loup but it was often a convenient place for a cocktail, like before or after a movie at the Quad.
