Lucky you! Was given the same line by a Paris waiter and then was served WAY overcooked rognons, aka inedible.

My husband has a catch-all response for stories like this one. "There's too much money out there."

Safety is a priority, as is stress reduction. Wishing the best for both of you.

Don't know why but I'm reminded of our son's response to a gaudy plastic hummingbird feeder we were given when he was maybe 4. I started to fill it but he cried out, "NO, NO! We don't want those kinds of birds!" The kind who'd delight in a $40 truffled martini.

She understood the difference between fashion and style.

Having followed Frechon from La Verriere, he's had a good run and deserves independence and time for pursuits closer to his heart.

Much closer to the "final distribution" than the rest of you, this weighs on my mind at every turn. Husband and I, each in our own genre, have accumulated much "stuff". Much our son and progeny have laid claim to, but maybe much more is in that category of "you gotta understand It's history". Listen up! There will be one hell of an estate sale!

My back was shot today, so husband manned the stove. -> Philly cheesesteaks. Perfect. Several orders of magnitude better than Pat's and a couple of others in Philly.

I think from Washington state, not around here.

Sometimes those decisions we are loathe to make are made for us. Sending all positive thoughts.

MR, I am so sorry to read these. I have no easy balms. Hang in there and know that MFF offers you a forum and group of caring people. Our situation is not at all bleak. All husband's treatments seem to be working as designed with improvements on every test. Side effects have been minimum and one would never know he was having problems to look at him as he continues with all of his normal (absurdly physical) activities. My point to @backyardchef was that moving forward positively with his doctors is the best way to get beyond past transgressions. And to encourage others to listen to their bodies. They feed us subtle information every day that inform us of inconsistencies. Don't ignore it.

Think of it this way: you are in much worse shape now than you will be after the procedure. Sending all good thoughts. Mostly, have faith in your doctors. I say this as husband has UCSF oncology, cardiac and stroke teams working on his behalf at the moment. We feel fortunate that there were diagnoses when there were. Ignorance is not bliss.

Tell us about it. San Francisco's downtown (Financial District and Union Square) is a wasteland since "work from home" drained the offices and online shopping sapped retail foot traffic.

24/7 โannoying painโ can be very debilitating.

Understood. I have several (multi-several) shelves of outdated travel and lodging guides. One that I got rid of decade ago still haunts me. It was a mid-60s Fodor's on Italy. It contained a satirical piece titled (something like) "There are ---- steps to the cathedral" and purported to be the only guide you'd ever need to Italy. Gist: "As we arrive at the quiet Pizza ---- in bucolic Santa -----, we are taken by the soft ochre tones of cathedral Santa -----. There are ---- steps to the cathedral." And so on, describing every aspect of the town. 'Do not miss the altar tryptych by famous -----, depicting Virgin Mary and ---- angels." I thought this was absolutely brilliant, but my best friend, a travel-trivia buff, was horrified. "Sacrilege!" I got rid of my copy but have half-heartedly tried to locate and rebuy a copy.

The opposite of this, when we were first married, husband used to empty his pockets after a night out and drop ticket stubs in one of those ceramic "nest egg" banks. Several years down the pike, our house was burglarized and the egg was among stuff taken. We laughed about the thief who broke open the egg, assuming the ruffle of paper was currency, only to find our momento stash of used tickets.

Can't buy fresh haddock here. Wasteland!

Don't know why that finnan haddie or any smoked haddock is almost impossible to source here. Salt cod, easy, but not FH. Why?

You Learn Something New Every Day (cont.)

Don't think it's particularly good at this. A friend consumed substantial peanuts at a ballgame and wound up with a burst appendix. Almost died. -
Great idea! We save leftover protein and take to the country. Well labeled. Nestled among our on-hold leftovers are packages clearly marked CATFOOD.

Reminds me of my taking son and a pretty observant Jewish school friend to see "Life of Brian". A lot probably went over son's head but his friend spend much of the movie looking sideways at me to see what response was acceptable.

Important distinction.
