  1. We dine out with a group of folks often. There are usually six or eight of us. We'll start with cocktails and shared apps and then order our own mains. We may order some starters or sides "for the table". We've even been known to order an extra main for the table if it is something all of us want to try. Especially if it's something we've not had before and wouldn't want to have the entire dish by ourselves. We tell the server what we are doing and they always bring serving utensils and share plates for us. We'll even ask them to help us with quantities. For example if there are eight of us an
  2. It's gentle, really. I love roller coasters and that is one of my favorites. I haven't been to Santa Cruz in years. I need to remedy that.
  3. I still like my Krups Toaster/Convection Oven and use it daily.
  4. Next week, April 1st and 2nd are open for me at this point.
  5. So March is almost over and we haven't had BoM yet. Is anyone available this Thursday?
  6. And even though my prior two experiences were not fantastic, my brother loved his burger at Loulay. More to add to our running list of BoM entries: Lost Lake Cafe And one more, if we dare. Eureka! And another one. Ethan's new place, Red Cow, has a burger on the menu. We were there on Sunday and saw a lot of people ordering it. It looked great! Dot's is reopening as a bistro tonight and they have a burger on the menu. I read about the burger at Miller's Guild and it sounds good too.
  7. Costco is selling chicken coops.
  8. Here's a great essay about driving in LA by Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol.

If you want to know more (although why would you), this is a good documentary on his church family.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Good riddance.
  11. We have absolutely gone to non-highfalutin places! A summer field trip to Pick-Quick sounds perfect.

    Gigs

My friend caught wind of this after she did some digging when she couldn't figure out why a Liv Warfield show was selling out so quickly. Unfortunately she was in Palm Springs and couldn't attend.

    The Lakers

I actually saw that game last night, probably the first game I've watched since the Sonics left Seattle. It made me very happy. Also, shocked to see that Steve Nash is still playing!

  16. I mentioned this on our Burger of the Month thread, Bill and Melinda Gates were at the same restaurant that we were last night.
  17. I forgot to say that we had a star sighting at Loulay last night - Bill and Melinda Gates!
  18. I'm going to wager a guess that last nights burger at Loulay may be the burger providing the most differing opinion among us. I'm going to stick to my thoughts and let the others weigh in on their own. I want to start off by saying this was my third time to Loulay. The first two experiences were not stellar but most (not all) service/kitchen issues seem to be resolved. Now, on to the burger. I liked mine, better than most probably. The bun is a brioche bun made for them by Grand Central. It's very rich and buttery which was fine by me. It was sturdy enough to stand up to the burger wit
  19. That's why we need you here, GG. I was thinking the same thing here too!
  20. I was thinking the same thing.
  21. We have a reservation for Monday, February 24th at 6:30 PM at Loulay. I made the reservation for 8 people so if someone wants to join in, they can. See you then! Reminding everyone this is tonight and we still have one spot left if anyone is interested in joining us.
  22. We drank a 96 Beaucastel CdP this weekend. It was fantastic with some Asian spices (licorice) and still some fruit on it. We served it with roast chicken and a cauliflower gratin. It was an absolute winner.
  23. that's why you have to have a secret email address for people whose emails you care to read. on my iphone i have 5 or 6 folks designated as VIPs for the purposes of email and for those folks i get an alert across my screen like a text But, to make this work, the 15 - 20 people I text with regularly would all have to have this type of VIP set up in order to see the emails in a timely fashion. Why not just text? It's instantaneous? I also email these folks regularly. But I use that for things that don't require an immediate response. about half of my VIPs are oldsters who don't

  25. What cstuart said. I get so many emails that I don't have them pushed to my phone, I have to retrieve them when I have time to slog through them all. I think of texts as a phone call I can make silently.
