  1. I had brunch there. No gravel sadly. I believe I have had brunch twice this year and it's only April. I very rarely eat brunch.
  2. I guess it's an unnecessary expenditure of mental energy to wonder why there are only two four star restaurants in the top 10 (or why one of the top 10 appears to have zero stars). 27 for me. (There are some awful choices in the list.)
  3. That explains a lot (although I think it's questionable whether it's a wise practice). It seems to me to imply that giving three stars to Tatiana and La Pirana doesn't mean they are being compared.
  4. 1. What is "Midtown American"? The "many" American restaurants in midtown? 2. What are the "disparate references" in that example? 3. Donohue's isn't in midtown. Wait, you said that. WTF? 4. If there are many examples, couldn't you find a clearer one? 5. Oh, here we go: "Or the vast selection of sushi, sashimi, and tempura on the menu at Nobu, a combination less often seen outside of the States." 6. Shakes head. 7. All Donohue's entrees are at least $10 cheaper than Stupak's hot dog.
  5. Or it would cost Joey well over $2,000 to eat 76 of these.

    Supper

Three nights on the goat, the middle night was the tacos. It was so good I forgive Luis for being cash only. I do have rather a lot of shrimp.
  7. A glass of the champagne instead of water and you'd be up around $70. I find this quite amusing as it shows you can drop that amount of money without having anything resembling a meal.
  8. You could do the smoky almonds and a side of dirty rice and get out for under $40 all included (as long as you dirnk tap water).

    Supper

    Baja shrimp tacos.
  10. Fascinating venue. The theater is on the second floor and you access it by climbing the spiral staircase within the wall. It’s like a short fat lighthouse. Obviously I will never willingly miss Kayla Farrish in performance again, so I think I need tickets for La Mama next weekend.

    Supper

Goat was even better on day two, so tender. Excited for day three. Then I will eat something less meaty, likely some shrimp.

    Supper

Very large slab of goat leg braised for about four hours in red wine with rosemary. Should get three dinners out of this. Goat tacos tonight.

    Supper

Big slab of goat leg braised for four hours in red wine with rosemary and onions. With broccoli (allegedly a vegetable) tonight. Tomorrow I will be eating late, so tacos. I anticipate it will still be going Sunday.
  14. Oh dear. Unmistakable.
  15. Oh no “e” on the end of Examined and although I have permissions I can’t remember how to edit titles on my phone.
  16. Excited to be going to dance performances at this venue tomorrow. https://www.nycgo.com/venues/harlem-stage-the-gatehouse/ I’ve walked by this 1890 building and somehow knew it was connected with the city’s water supply. But I don’t think I knew there was a performance space (Harlem Stage) inside.
  17. I believe you, but I wonder when that was?
  18. Did I see that in my local wine store or is it my imagination? Will find out later.

    Supper

Most things are better breaded and fried. Okay I don’t necessarily mean pets or books.

    Supper

I made scrapple schnitzels Tuesday night and pork schnitzels last night. Maybe I should change it up tonight and have some kind of pork product without breadcrumbs.
  21. They can’t afford Pete Wells like they couldn’t afford Ryan Sutton. To be just honest, they couldn’t afford me.* I don’t know what Sietsema’s deal is. *Sure I’d do it for fun and expenses but Vox Media is not going to pay a real wage.
  22. You just have to scan the current stories. Korean hot dogs, tacos, hottest pop-ups, bagels, breakfast sandwiches, samosas, burgers, Barbie. It's not aimed at us. It's aimed at Gen Y; it's aimed at people who might go to a fine dining restaurant a couple of times a year, but want to feel like they know where the hottest casual spots are. People who will buy a bottle of premium tequila. Of course, the NY Times critic only spends about 50% of his columns on anything approaching fine dining these days.
  23. I still don't get why they would make this switch after taking cards for many, many years.
  24. These streaming channels must be desperate. I went to sign up and they offered me three months free. I'll be through these two series easily in that time frame, so what are they going to do to keep me?
