  1. Anything known about Au Jus? Mini-chainlet uptown offering slow roast meats and Oklahoma BBQ, including by the pound. I have no particular idea about what Oklahoma BBQ is, but there is a lot on this menu that I would like to eat. I recall nothing about it, just happened to see one of them today.
  2. A block up from The Honeywell, Uptown Bourbon. Completely different atmosphere. Like a small neighborhood bar but with serious bar tending and a huge selection of whiskeys. No food. A record player for playing records. They have a sibling bar, Penny Jo’s, a short walk away in the Heights. I expect I will investigate.
  3. Two egg omelette with fresh cilantro but how did I forget I had bacon in the fridge?

    Naomi Judd

That is sad. The announcement, rightly or wrongly, suggests suicide. I guess we’ll find out.

    Gigs

Attending a Vevo event this week for work at Hammerstein Ballroom featuring a mystery performance. You’d think Vevo could source someone good for this.
  6. A loaf of ground pig parts, yes. I used to get it years ago from Flying Pigs Farm in the greenmarket, but that was artisanal local scrapple and priced accordingly. I found this in a Harlem supermarket (just as I recently found souse in a different Harlem supermarket). Glad to have it back in the rotation.
  7. Slab of scrapple, two fried eggs, pot of Bustelo.

    Supper

Slab of scrapple with five or six french fries. Big frisee salad. Tomme de Crayeuse.

    Supper

A big bowl of beef broth, strained from short ribs cooking juices. A slab of seared scrapple. Frisée salad. Tomme de Crayeuse. Oh I did throw about six French fries into the scrapple pan.
  11. To the question whether the sentences, as you say, and you meet it beautifully, as you always do, end, in the sense of conclude, terminate or come to rest, I should say, and boldly I will, that they do indeed, but not before seizing for themselves, as should we all, those of us able at least, the luxury of interminable divagation.
  12. Henry James, The Outcry. The last novel, by his standards lightly comic.
  13. Tech, which now overlaps with creative.

    Gigs

Gig, not really, but Quincy Troupe, (auto)biographer and memorialist of Miles Davis, reading and discussing his lifetime of poetry. He knew everyone; great treasury of memories, and he reads like a musician, foot tapping the beat.
  15. I’ll drop this here. Waiting for an event to start in a library tonight and I pull Roger Ebert’s guide to best movies all time off the shelf, and I have to say he has them right. Then I noticed he has volumes two and three of the same. I will need to find time. He conquered me of course with his comments on Ozu.
  16. Claire Bloom can give me any review she likes (I mean we’re back in 1952).

    Supper

I could have ordered a bunless burger (or a lettuce bun burger) from Harlem Public but I lazily ordered the regular, ate the burger out of it and dropped the bun. One good thing about doing that is you get the tactile thing of holding the burger. Of course, the buns could be feeding starving children in somewhere.
  18. Very excited that Ryusuke Hamaguchi has a new movie exclusively streaming on Criterion.
  19. Ooh, nervous about this because I hugely admired the first series but saw all kinds of negative stuff about this one. Let us know.

I love the open kitchen as opposed to the closed kitchen that eGullet founders could get access to :never-forget: 😂

    Otto

Mm, saw that. Reads like the Otto menu, with pisas which are kind of not pizzas just like Otto’s pizzas were certainly not pizzas, but in a slightly different way.
  22. Sure, if we can get a GoFundMe going, I would love to.
