Somewhat ridiculously I'm in Paris for two days and a series of meetings have cancelled on me. Now find myself with way more downtime and no reason to catch an earlier flight as the fam has gone to the inlaws for two days given NJ school is out. So anyplace you guys love for solo diners? I miss the old thread. I miss chambo.
  3. I believe the last time I was in Zurich was 1988. I remember being very concerned with getting Mets scores.
  4. Anyone have thoughts on where to grab dinner tomorrow night?
  5. that concept behind the tilefish dish is just something you don't easily find in NYC. Before you get to talking about about the ingredients and the execution.
  6. not at all. but my son barely watches TV and my daughter's taste in TV makes Friends look like prestige drama
  7. Sneak idk how to break it to you but those vineyards are more like gentle rolling hills rather than steep slopes. And the neighbors are mostly holiday homes It's almost suburban feeling if I'm honest.
  8. I promise I know what the constituents of the ivy league are.
  9. I mean the guest did deserve to get thrown out. I just thought the invitation to donnybrook a bit much.
  10. I've told my story before of a manager at Ssam challenging a guest to fight.
  11. My favorite elementary school story will forever and ever be when New Canaan tried to consolidate elementary schools and parents at one school objected to being mixed in with dual income families. Maplewood one of the more "progressive" towns out here banned Halloween this year btw.
  12. I was under the impression when she said "small ivy league" she meant "little ivy" especially given the description.
  13. I mean its fine. All too sweet, but in the canon of fast food not hideous.
  14. I remember huge media around. Is Fuku successful? I wonder if the Chick-fil-A rollout in the Northeast has hurt that?
  15. this is just so perfectly dickish "we're the best so obviously you don't need to see us to make us your first choice"
  16. Last I heard nixtamal had moved the entire wholesale tortilla business to NJ and it seemed like split the taqueria off as a separate entity.
  17. my neighbor grows goats on their hobby farm. It was interesting to me to learn that they are almost entirely sold for Ramadan.
  18. hes not complaining that an appetizer is 28 dollars, he's complaining that two shrimp are 28 dollars. He's happy to recommend a 39 dollar burger. His critique isn't one of general affordability, its one of value for money - and its clear he doesn't understand ingredient costs.
  19. one wonders what the GM on the 39 dollar minetta burger looks like relative to the infamous 28 dollar shrimp
  20. I mean I can think of good reasons not to want to go to stuy. It doesn't sound like a particularly fun place to go to school. nyc hs process sounds horrible. we're at a "do we move the kids to the prepostrous day school because we're sort of unhappy with the public school" process right now for middle school next year - the two good secular day schools have a 6th grade entry. I feel very conflicted. I feel like good outcomes are actually better at the local A- public high and middle, but average outcomes are worse. So you are asking yourself do I think my kid can be in the top five of his class at the public high school or not - and that's just a crazy think to try to underwrite in a 5th grader. And they you layer in I've met some incredible kids at the day school but I've also met some kids who seem very very entitled. Its not obvious
  21. I can't believe that ridiculousness just did a funding round.
  22. I thought the whole story with resy was that they were basically giving the service away? like it was a subsidy from Amex to restos
