  1. I can't believe I'm the only one who watched Heated Rivalry.
  2. There are few things that give me more pleasure as the parent of a preteen than watching him gobble down a book. Now, there are times when he has no interest in reading, but when he finds something that excites him he gets so immersed.
  3. Picked up an aged garlic salami over the week so make a favorite - salami and eggs.
  4. I saw him in Fairway once. It was a very unexpected sighting.
  5. Too. Many. Emails. I hate the the sheer inundation of Cyber Monday emails that keep coming. I swear I deleted over 400 of them yesterday. And they still aren't stopping.
  6. I'm pretty sure some of her work has been hung at The Whitney.

Finally got to see The Wombats at the Brooklyn Paramount last week. I've been wanted to see them for awhile. Lots of fun, although it was a very frat bro crowd. The advantage of having a spouse who has knee issues is were are able to get seats in the section for people with disabilities which meant we were feet from the stage.
  8. Sneakeater was a big fan of absinthe washes. Try the Mad Hatter, that's one I particularly enjoyed.

    Saul Zabar

I walked by the store earlier this week and I was surprised there was nothing in the window about Saul and his passing.
  10. I was thinking about her the other day when it occurred it me that I hadn't seen her in anything in a while.
  11. I got 23 out of 25.

I should add that much of my kitchen is outfitted with housewares from the 2nd floor, most importantly my beloved Cuisinart which is turning 30 in December.

I used to love seeing him when I would go into the store. I had no idea they started as the smoked fish counter at Daitch's supermarket.
  14. And this is why I typically prefer going to exhibits by myself. It's fun going with friends, but when I really want to immerse myself I need to be alone.
  15. Have you seen the video of the guy blowing the shofar at the stadium?
  16. I like that bookstore. Definitely on the quirky side.

I remember in 1993 when CBGBs hosted their 20th anniversary shows.
  18. We're 7 adults, 2 kids, and one very dog tonight. Here's the menu - Rosh Hashanah Seder Apples and Honey Pomegranate Fish Head Leek Late summer minestrone Boneless Rib Roast, rubbed with mustard and herbs Pink Couscous w/roasted beets, spicy chickpeas and pickled onions Beets are a siman. Hawaij roasted cauliflower Corn, Musroom and Red Onion Roasted Squash w/Tamarind caramelized onions Napa cabbage salad with green herbs and sesame ginger dressing Cabbage is a siman. Vegan Chocolate Mousse Plum tart
  19. Holiday starts to night. What's everyone cooking?
  20. I had some babka dough sitting in my freezer that I made several months ago that I decided to use. Made a chocolate tahina sour cherry babka using sour cherries that I had preserved. It looks ugly and the bottom burned a bit. But it's so buttery and tastes pretty good.
  21. End of summer dinner - corn chowder, tuna and salmon nigiri, a salad of pole beans, corn, and sungolds, pasta with eggplant. A Cypriot wine from a grape called Xynisteri. All of the produce was purchased at the greenmarket earlier in the morning. I love eating this way.
  22. Made it back to NY without any more tickets!
  23. Kid isn't sure what to make of Talking Heads - we listened to Stop Making Sense. I was surprised with how familiar he was with The Kinks. Listened to One for the Road. I forgot Paranoia isn't on it, which I love. But Superman is. Which is a great track. And we listened to The Essential Bruce Springsteen. Opening track is Bruce's Blinded by the Light. @MitchW - he was really confused and decided he likes the Manfred Mann version better.
  24. I'm realizing that the real issue with streaming is that kids don't have a perspective on era of music. We were listening to the radio and Wham's Wake Me Up Before You GoGo came on and the kid exclaimed how much he loved the song and started singing along with it like it was new. Meanwhile, I had to tell him that it was released in the mid-80s.
  25. We did a lot of Crowded House last summer.
