  1. The frequency with which my kid tells me he needs my help to find something missing because "he looked REALLY, REALLY hard! All over the place" and then I find it within seconds is out of control. And in the process I often find things that no one has noticed missing - yet. My personal favorite is when I ask if he looked in a specific place, he says yes but it's not there but somehow it miraculously appears as soon as I walk over.
  2. Episode 5 packs an incredible emotional punch. And Six is sweet and tender.
  3. Yes - episode 5. Which is amazing!
  4. But are you coming to the cottage?
  5. We initially were parked on the wrong side of the street which meant that the plows shoved all the snow against the car. I actually needed help from one of the guys who work in my building to dig me out.
  6. Finding street parking is a nightmare. There are still mounds of snow everywhere and you can tell who hasn't moved from their space in 2 weeks.
  7. Boy's hockey team won their League championship morning. So proud of the kids. After a brutal start to the season, they haven't lost a game since November. Now it's tournament time. (and it was warmer in the rink than outside)
  8. I received an email from the lawyer I hired that the ticket I received for driving about 35 miles over the speed limit this summer while driving up to Toronto has been dismissed. No points and no fine. Best money I ever spent.
  9. She was such an amazing comic actor.
  10. Just got back from skiing in Vermont with the kid. His winter break is in January. Now thinking of I'm going to take myself to LA to see the Islanders play both the Kings and the Ducks in March. As with much in my life, it will depend on the boy's hockey schedule. We're getting to tournament time.
  11. Both are excellent choices.
  12. It's funny you think severe severe weather means transitioning to whisky from gin. To me it means moving from lighter single malts to the big bad boys from Islay with lots of smoke and peat. I traditionally make the gin to whisky transition in September.
  13. I can't believe I'm the only one who watched Heated Rivalry.
  14. There are few things that give me more pleasure as the parent of a preteen than watching him gobble down a book. Now, there are times when he has no interest in reading, but when he finds something that excites him he gets so immersed.
  15. Picked up an aged garlic salami over the week so make a favorite - salami and eggs.
  16. I saw him in Fairway once. It was a very unexpected sighting.
  17. Too. Many. Emails. I hate the the sheer inundation of Cyber Monday emails that keep coming. I swear I deleted over 400 of them yesterday. And they still aren't stopping.
  18. I'm pretty sure some of her work has been hung at The Whitney.

Finally got to see The Wombats at the Brooklyn Paramount last week. I've been wanted to see them for awhile. Lots of fun, although it was a very frat bro crowd. The advantage of having a spouse who has knee issues is were are able to get seats in the section for people with disabilities which meant we were feet from the stage.
  20. Sneakeater was a big fan of absinthe washes. Try the Mad Hatter, that's one I particularly enjoyed.

    Saul Zabar

I walked by the store earlier this week and I was surprised there was nothing in the window about Saul and his passing.
  22. I was thinking about her the other day when it occurred it me that I hadn't seen her in anything in a while.
  23. I got 23 out of 25.

I should add that much of my kitchen is outfitted with housewares from the 2nd floor, most importantly my beloved Cuisinart which is turning 30 in December.

I used to love seeing him when I would go into the store. I had no idea they started as the smoked fish counter at Daitch's supermarket.
