  1. Sneakeater was a big fan of absinthe washes. Try the Mad Hatter, that's one I particularly enjoyed.

I walked by the store earlier this week and I was surprised there was nothing in the window about Saul and his passing.
  3. I was thinking about her the other day when it occurred it me that I hadn't seen her in anything in a while.
  4. I got 23 out of 25.

I should add that much of my kitchen is outfitted with housewares from the 2nd floor, most importantly my beloved Cuisinart which is turning 30 in December.

I used to love seeing him when I would go into the store. I had no idea they started as the smoked fish counter at Daitch's supermarket.
  7. And this is why I typically prefer going to exhibits by myself. It's fun going with friends, but when I really want to immerse myself I need to be alone.
  8. Have you seen the video of the guy blowing the shofar at the stadium?
  9. I like that bookstore. Definitely on the quirky side.

I remember in 1993 when CBGBs hosted their 20th anniversary shows.
  11. We're 7 adults, 2 kids, and one very dog tonight. Here's the menu - Rosh Hashanah Seder Apples and Honey Pomegranate Fish Head Leek Late summer minestrone Boneless Rib Roast, rubbed with mustard and herbs Pink Couscous w/roasted beets, spicy chickpeas and pickled onions Beets are a siman. Hawaij roasted cauliflower Corn, Musroom and Red Onion Roasted Squash w/Tamarind caramelized onions Napa cabbage salad with green herbs and sesame ginger dressing Cabbage is a siman. Vegan Chocolate Mousse Plum tart
  12. Holiday starts to night. What's everyone cooking?
  13. I had some babka dough sitting in my freezer that I made several months ago that I decided to use. Made a chocolate tahina sour cherry babka using sour cherries that I had preserved. It looks ugly and the bottom burned a bit. But it's so buttery and tastes pretty good.
  14. End of summer dinner - corn chowder, tuna and salmon nigiri, a salad of pole beans, corn, and sungolds, pasta with eggplant. A Cypriot wine from a grape called Xynisteri. All of the produce was purchased at the greenmarket earlier in the morning. I love eating this way.
  15. Made it back to NY without any more tickets!
  16. Kid isn't sure what to make of Talking Heads - we listened to Stop Making Sense. I was surprised with how familiar he was with The Kinks. Listened to One for the Road. I forgot Paranoia isn't on it, which I love. But Superman is. Which is a great track. And we listened to The Essential Bruce Springsteen. Opening track is Bruce's Blinded by the Light. @MitchW - he was really confused and decided he likes the Manfred Mann version better.
  17. I'm realizing that the real issue with streaming is that kids don't have a perspective on era of music. We were listening to the radio and Wham's Wake Me Up Before You GoGo came on and the kid exclaimed how much he loved the song and started singing along with it like it was new. Meanwhile, I had to tell him that it was released in the mid-80s.
  18. We did a lot of Crowded House last summer.
  19. I'm not crazy about Lola Young either. And while I like Midnight Oil, my preferred Australian band of that genre was Hunters and Collectors. We ended up not listening to a lot of music over our 2 days of driving. Mostly talked. Which is actually the thing I love about road trips.
  20. I think it will be a big fine. Although the cop said I might be able to convince the DA to lower the mileage if I write a note explaining my previously impeccable record. In my defense, the stretch of road I was driving is great. Nicely paved, very little traffic, curvy - but not too curvy. It's fun to drive and I've driven it many, many times over the years. (Rte. 17 between Roscoe and Hancock). I know there are often cops near Monticello and further north need Windsor, but I've never seen them on this bit of road.
  21. I've had my drivers license for 40 years. Today I got my first speeding ticket for driving at 85.
  22. Joe Cuba's Latin Bugaloo (Bang! Bang!) did not go over well. Kid said the percussion gave him a headache.
  23. The boy has a particular loathing for Taylor Swift. He doesn't care for Olivia Rodrigo, but will tolerate it if he must. I'm taking CDs and don't have anything very recent, so no Hinds. We've listened to a lot of Tom Petty this past year. Thinking Wilco. Possibly The Kinks, if I can find the CDs. Long car rides are great for introducing the classics.
  24. The boy and I are driving up to Toronto. Last time we did the drive we listened to Joe Jackson, Squeeze, Bad Religion, Elton John, Foo Fighters and The Band. Trying to decide what this trip's playlist should include. Thoughts?

I was texting with my brother who was reminiscing about seeing them at both Forest Hills and the Fillmore. My first Who show was '89 at Giants Stadium. My parents didn't let me go to Shea in '82.
