I guess I linger on the gin longer. I was torn between Ardbeg and Laphroiag. Those are my peaty favorites.
Both are excellent choices.

It's funny you think severe severe weather means transitioning to whisky from gin. To me it means moving from lighter single malts to the big bad boys from Islay with lots of smoke and peat. I traditionally make the gin to whisky transition in September.

I can't believe I'm the only one who watched Heated Rivalry.

This made me so sad. I can't imagine growing up without knowing the joy of losing myself in a book.
There are few things that give me more pleasure as the parent of a preteen than watching him gobble down a book. Now, there are times when he has no interest in reading, but when he finds something that excites him he gets so immersed.

Picked up an aged garlic salami over the week so make a favorite - salami and eggs.

I saw him in Fairway once. It was a very unexpected sighting.

Too. Many. Emails.
I hate the the sheer inundation of Cyber Monday emails that keep coming. I swear I deleted over 400 of them yesterday. And they still aren't stopping.

I'm pretty sure some of her work has been hung at The Whitney.

Finally got to see The Wombats at the Brooklyn Paramount last week. I've been wanted to see them for awhile. Lots of fun, although it was a very frat bro crowd. The advantage of having a spouse who has knee issues is were are able to get seats in the section for people with disabilities which meant we were feet from the stage.

Sneakeater was a big fan of absinthe washes. Try the Mad Hatter, that's one I particularly enjoyed.

I walked by the store earlier this week and I was surprised there was nothing in the window about Saul and his passing.

I was thinking about her the other day when it occurred it me that I hadn't seen her in anything in a while.

I got 23 out of 25.

I should add that much of my kitchen is outfitted with housewares from the 2nd floor, most importantly my beloved Cuisinart which is turning 30 in December.

I used to love seeing him when I would go into the store. I had no idea they started as the smoked fish counter at Daitch's supermarket.

The Sixties Surreal exhibition will involve at least one more visit, as one of the people I was with insisted on talking the whole time...
And this is why I typically prefer going to exhibits by myself. It's fun going with friends, but when I really want to immerse myself I need to be alone.

Looks like we do. The first thing I did after Yom Kippur ended was turn on my phone and check the score.
Have you seen the video of the guy blowing the shofar at the stadium?

I had some babka dough sitting in my freezer that I made several months ago that I decided to use. Made a chocolate tahina sour cherry babka using sour cherries that I had preserved. It looks ugly and the bottom burned a bit. But it's so buttery and tastes pretty good.

End of summer dinner - corn chowder, tuna and salmon nigiri, a salad of pole beans, corn, and sungolds, pasta with eggplant. A Cypriot wine from a grape called Xynisteri.
All of the produce was purchased at the greenmarket earlier in the morning. I love eating this way.

Just got back from skiing in Vermont with the kid. His winter break is in January. Now thinking of I'm going to take myself to LA to see the Islanders play both the Kings and the Ducks in March. As with much in my life, it will depend on the boy's hockey schedule. We're getting to tournament time.
