  1. I didn't develop a liking for beer until my 20s. And as much as brother tried to teach me about scotch in my 20s, it wasn't until my 30s that I began to enjoy it. Cocktails on the other hand...granted it was things like White Russians but I recall enjoying them when I started to make the bar/bat mitzvah rounds.
  2. The other evening I decided to have a post dinner pear eau-de-vie. The boy asked if he could try it and I let him take a taste. He was absolutely disgusted by it which makes me very happy because it means he's not going to be tempted to try any of my other bottles.

I love Old '97s. They always put on a great show. I'm trying to decide whether or not to see The Wombats later this week at Brooklyn Steel. Anyone want to go with me?
  4. @Diancecht - do you have any of the later editions? I'm curious how this one compares.
  5. I really need to make one of those. It's been on my list for some time.
  6. After going on hiatus due to Covid my taste buds have started to re-emerge. We're hoping that I regain the ability to enjoy red wine, which I lost in '15. (I'm sure I've complained about how all red wine tastes over-oxidized to me)
  7. I'm thinking of being there when the museum opens one weekday morning within the next few weeks.
  8. We bought our second Bosch in February and are happy with it - although I have some issues with the layout as well. First Bosch lasted 17 years - I loved it. In between we had Miele. There's a reason I returned to Bosch.
  9. Somehow, after avoiding Covid for 3.5 years it finally found me. FUCK!!!
  10. Started watching The Gold on Paramount Plus which is based on a gold heist in '83 where thieves made off with 3 tons of gold bars. The show is about how they went about laundering the gold and the police pursuing them. Had they dropped more than two episodes I would have binged the whole thing.
  11. They opened for The Who at Shea Stadium in '82. My parents wouldn't let me go - they said I was too young. I never forgave them.
  12. Just bought the new Adeena Sussman book Shabbat and Leah Koenig's Portico which is about the Roman Jewish Kitchen. I really like prior books from both authors and have high hopes for these two.
  13. Perhaps he's the one who isn't so articulate.
  14. I'll take a photo of the recipe and text it to you. I try to be a little more creative on the holiday, but one of my favorite recipes is what I call "Brisket for Dummies". Basically, you chop up some carrots, onions, and celery and place is at the bottom of a roasting dish. Lay the brisket on top and smother it with marinara sauce. Cover the the dish tightly with foil and cook in a 325 oven for 3 - 4 hours depending on the size. Slice when cool and reheat.
  15. Holiday starts tonight. It's just going to be the three of us this year. I'm doing a very streamlined menu this year: Rosh Hashana 7 Vegetable Soup Sweet & Sour Brisket Black Barley w/pomegranate and celery Savoy cabbage, apple, walnut & sumac onion salad We'll also have a fish head. I've tried to incorporate as many of the symbols we eat which represent our hopes and wishes for the new year. Obviously there's apples and honey, but also leeks, pomegranates, and squash.

    Welcome!

It's taken me about a week to to realize despite my email not being validated I could finally log in. Hi everyone!
  17. I just bought a bottle of creme de cassis which means I have everything I need to make one. Will have to try.
  18. Now we know - 4 snaps.
