After going on hiatus due to Covid my taste buds have started to re-emerge. We're hoping that I regain the ability to enjoy red wine, which I lost in '15. (I'm sure I've complained about how all red wine tastes over-oxidized to me)

I'm thinking of being there when the museum opens one weekday morning within the next few weeks.

We bought our second Bosch in February and are happy with it - although I have some issues with the layout as well. First Bosch lasted 17 years - I loved it. In between we had Miele. There's a reason I returned to Bosch.

Somehow, after avoiding Covid for 3.5 years it finally found me. FUCK!!!

Started watching The Gold on Paramount Plus which is based on a gold heist in '83 where thieves made off with 3 tons of gold bars. The show is about how they went about laundering the gold and the police pursuing them. Had they dropped more than two episodes I would have binged the whole thing.

They became a ... stadium band.
They opened for The Who at Shea Stadium in '82. My parents wouldn't let me go - they said I was too young. I never forgave them.

Just bought the new Adeena Sussman book Shabbat and Leah Koenig's Portico which is about the Roman Jewish Kitchen. I really like prior books from both authors and have high hopes for these two.

I'll take a photo of the recipe and text it to you. I try to be a little more creative on the holiday, but one of my favorite recipes is what I call "Brisket for Dummies". Basically, you chop up some carrots, onions, and celery and place is at the bottom of a roasting dish. Lay the brisket on top and smother it with marinara sauce. Cover the the dish tightly with foil and cook in a 325 oven for 3 - 4 hours depending on the size. Slice when cool and reheat.

Holiday starts tonight. It's just going to be the three of us this year. I'm doing a very streamlined menu this year:
Rosh Hashana 7 Vegetable Soup
Sweet & Sour Brisket
Black Barley w/pomegranate and celery
Savoy cabbage, apple, walnut & sumac onion saladWe'll also have a fish head. I've tried to incorporate as many of the symbols we eat which represent our hopes and wishes for the new year. Obviously there's apples and honey, but also leeks, pomegranates, and squash.

Trader Vic's El Diablo.
- 2 oz. blanco tequila
- 1 oz. lime juice
- 3 oz. ginger beer
- 1/2 oz. creme de cassis (we just have cassis liqueur, which I think is different)
Combine the first 3 ingredients in a highball glass. Add ice, then float the creme de cassis.
I just bought a bottle of creme de cassis which means I have everything I need to make one. Will have to try.
