BTW, the NY Giants stay at that hotel before all home games.

I can share my opinion of most of the kosher eateries in Teaneck, but I have a feeling that won't be of much interest to you. That said, Patis on Cedar Lane is part of a small chain and everyone I take there enjoys it. Pastries, sandwiches, soup, etc.

Bama rapidly becoming a destination school for kids from the fancy burbs who historically would have gone to Michigan, Wisconsin other big ten school.
The timing of this is spot on - one of my friends from college is visiting Bama with her boys this weekend. They're also considering U of Florida.

I know that hotel very well. I pass it on my way to the rink a minimum of 3x/week. It's actually pretty nice. Some of the best bagels around are to be found nearby on Teaneck Road - Teaneck Road Hot Bagels.

Let me be the five millionth person to make this joke. Gonna be tough beating duke at home in the regional finals.
Speaking of Duke - one night last week the boy asked us what a douchebag was. I bit my tongue and did not say a Duke alum.

I wouldn't totally assume the team hotel is in Newark.
There's a good chance you're going to be staying in the Meadowlands near MetLife Stadium.

There's only one book I make a point of re-reading once every 10 years or so and that is Pat Barker's Regeneration which is about the poet Siegfried Sassoon and the psychiatrist William Rivers. Each time I read it I discover something different resonates with me.

how do you handle weekend tourney's? does he play on Saturdays?
He plays for a shomer shabbat team. 2 games on Friday and the game on Saturday was at 7 pm. It was pretty cool, Saturday night was Jew night on the ice. Our 10U, 12U, and 14U teams all played the Ice Cats which is also a sabbath observant team. (last year when he was on a different team, our team hotel was across the street from the rink so we let him play on Saturday)
Our kids won that game and went into the semi-finals as the #2 seed. Kids lost in the final to the #1 seed. Boy scored the goal that brought them back to within one.

Just general peevishness. My phone won't stop ringing and I have a shit ton of logistics to deal with. Plus I need to finish unpacking after the weekend away and there's an obscene amount of laundry (which the spouse will handle, but still).
I need a nap.

We spent the weekend up in Marlboro, MA at a hockey tournament. A friend lives about 20 minutes from the rink and joined us for Shabbat dinner. I made a second cut brisket in advance and took it with me. Maybe one of the best briskets I've ever made. Cooked over night at 250F. Buttery soft. Served with a salad of shredded napa cabbage, dill, and mango with a sesame soy dressing and apple kugel. Traveled with a hot plate so everything was warm.

You know it's cold when it's warmer inside the rink then on the walk from the car.

My condolences to you and your entire family. I hope that hearing the stories of how he touched the lives of those around you bring some measure of comfort. May you have many years to remember him.

I am still sore after having to dig the car out on Monday afternoon. Even my hands ache from gripping the shovel.

The arrangement of America, The Beautiful was also good.
It was stunning the extent to which the Eagles dominated and manhandled the Chiefs.

I never had the pleasure, but my brother absolutely adored Lutece and would dine there frequently.

Only that he didn’t live long enough to unpack them?
I wondered about that. It's really sad that he didn't have time to enjoy his new place.

An old saw says that you can’t miss what you never had. So how can I so desperately miss someone I never met?
It think it says something about the community that was created here. While you many have never actually sat down at table with Sneak, you sat at a virtual table with him for years and had an opportunity to learn about his interests, his opinions, his wines and cocktails, etc. MF has been in its own way a virtual dinner party for over 20 years.

Caramelized onions and cabbage with sweet Italian sausage. Not the prettiest dish, but full of savory deliciousness.

Was there any one particular bar that Sneak loved? Can I suggest that we figure out a time that we meet and have a toast to his memory? I think it's something he would have appreciated.

This just sucks. He was such a major presence here. I met him only once - a group of us got together before @StephanieL moved west. Coincidentally, I was thinking about him last week and pulled up a file I created based on all the cocktail recipes he included in the "Staying In" email during Covid. I actually sourced kosher absinthe because of him and he definitely was one of the people who encouraged my exploration of craft cocktails.
We traded a couple of PMs over the last few months as I would check in to see how he was doing with his treatment. He introduced me to a couple of writers I was previously unfamiliar with I'm grateful for that.
I would like to believe the one plus is that he's reunited with his beloved wife. I know that was loss he never recovered from.

Dining Suggestions Near the Prudential Center

I can only comment on kosher places in Bergen County. There is a huge Korean community in Fort Lee so there are probably some good places there.
As Bonner says, you're really close to Manhattan - it takes me 17 minutes to get to Ice House (4-rink complex in Hackensack aka our home away from home) from my apartment on the UWS when there is no traffic. Which means about 12 minutes from my place to your hotel.
