    Supper

Alright! I'll give it a try.

    Supper

Thanks! I did saute it in olive oil, but the risotto idea is a good one. It doesn't turn to mush while absorbing the stock? That was my concern.

    Supper

Ah, got it. Yeah, I'm not doing too well with tomatoes myself. Might have to spring for the $6/lb Greenmarket hothouse.
  4. Still one of the best scenes ever. Presbyterian.

    Supper

That's not really tomato? It looks like tomato. I liked it okay. I should have seasoned it more aggressively to distract me from the fact that cauliflower does not taste like rice.

    Supper

Cod on riced cauliflower with tomato/red pepper/mushroom/olive sauce. I feel very spa-y.
  7. Aberfeldy, 'cause that's what I have in the house.
  8. Yes, when it came out. I just read the synopsis to refresh my memory, but my memory refuses to be refreshed. It's possible I was high when I saw it (would not have been out of the question in 1981, but now I don't like to waste the time or the money).

    Elio's

Maybe to protect the people who are unable to be vaxxed, like little kids. Which probably doesn't apply to Elio's, but still.

    Elio's

And also quite a bit more likely to get sick, no?
  11. I didn't, but I will look. The whole thing is so sound-stagey. Which works for the interiors, mostly, but Fifth Avenue looks like a very fancy Sesame Street. Are you telling me there's no horse manure on the street? Because I'm not buying it.
  12. The Gilded Age. Yawn. We've seen this premise, we've seen these characters, we've seen these narratives. (What I'm getting at here, is that it's very predictable.) I'm not a fan of Bridgerton, but at least it had the capacity to surprise me. Great clothes, though! And Stanford White is a character, which got me thinking about the whole Evelyn Nesbit thing - I'd forgotten all about that.

    Elio's

This is only my first reason to think that, because until this post I had never heard of Elio's.

    Elio's

Like I needed another reason to think she's a terrible person.

    Supper

Mexican-ish shrimp salad (with a little too much jalapeno - hello!). And roasted oyster mushrooms and eggplant that shrunk down a little more than I expected. With some peanut sauce left over from takeout a while back, that was mysteriously still fine.
  16. No surprise those families are connected.
  17. No thoughts, no prayers.
  18. It kind of reminded me of Julie Taymor's Titus, the starkness.
  19. Jewish and Puerto Rican, if memory serves. I was so sorry when it closed. It was kind of my ideal place to see music (i.e., good sight-lines, table service, not too loud). I saw Main Squeeze there too, and if you can't have a good time watching a semi-proficient all-female accordion band, you're just not trying.
  20. He is the best. One of the best Valentine's Days I ever spent was a cabaret show with Murray Hill and Dirty Martini at Mo Pitkins House of Satisfaction.

    Supper

    Plate buffet! I love those.
  22. Union Square is still surprisingly bountiful. I went last Saturday and got a fair amount of stuff.
  23. I gave Archive 81 a try. If you've never seen a horror movie series before, you'll probably like it. If you have, you'll be like, oh, this again? It's got that guy in it who was in Orange is the New Black and How to Get Away With Murder. He got thick. Also Somebody Somewhere, which is AWESOME and you should watch it immediately.

    Supper

Giant bowl of miso noodle soup with stuff. The sort of thing you get at, say, Nice Green Bo and think, I'm never gonna finish this. And then you do! These tofu shirataki noodles aren't half bad.
