Cafe Altro Paradiso is Chef Ignacio Mattos and wine guy Thomas Carter's follow-up to their wildly successful Estela. Before becoming a star at Estela, Chef Mattos cooked at the ill-fated New ______ restaurant Isa in Brooklyn. He said that at this new place, he wanted to cook straight-out Italian. The world missing from that last sentence is "again". Because the place Chef Mattos first attracted attention in New York, before he opened at Isa, was Il Buco. Open, apparently. Probably worth a look, despite the predictable no reservations policy (okay, parties of 8 and over), and the price of the snacks and small plates ($6-$18 and $10-$18, respectively). You might feel you'd like to pay $18 for an entree in a "bustling" wine bar, but no: entrees are $20-$29. Which means small plate, entree, two glasses of wine, tax and tip=around $70-$80. Just saying. ETA: The small plates and entrees, of course, may be sized for sharing.
