  1. top splurge/fine dining restaurants of the bay area according to soleil ho note there’s a pay wall for those of you who are able to access this piece, hubby and i have been to five restaurants on this list of 27: benu, californios, mourad, nari (which some of you may know as pim’s newest sf venture) and saison. we’re considering atelier crenn, the shota or kaiseki saryo hachi later this year.
  2. we had dinner at soba ichi (2311a magnolia (grand)) in oakland last night. if you had been to honmura an when it was open in nyc, they are on par with the quality of soba that was made there. the restaurant is open from thursday to sunday, no reservations are accepted and it’s first come-first served. they’re worth your time if you’re ever in the area. 2018 sf chronicle review eater sf highlight
  3. A friend took me to her favorite spice shop in Albany (they have a another location in Oakland, too) and we had a blast. We created several custom blends for friends and bought too many spices for ourselves. These folks run these two shops and all the employees are owners. They love spices in an almost unnatural way. You can sniff, taste, ask way too many questions and they are still lovely. The founders are Penzey alumni and it shows. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
