MitchW
Quote This is the kind of cocktail that turns heads as it travels through the bar's glass-encased dining room and makes you feel exceptionally fancy as you take tiny sips of your drink and nibble on olives and truffle," Lauren Saria wrote for Eater SF, describing a $40 martini sold by Bar Sprezzatura that is made with truffle-infused vodka and served with a sidecar on a special tray with olives. I don't know about anyone else, but they'd have to pay me $40 to try truffle-infused vodka. (Or gin, for that matter). nibble on olives and truffle How does one nibble on truffle, anyway? P. T. Barnum was right. Edited March 2 by MitchW
voyager
Don't know why but I'm reminded of our son's response to a gaudy plastic hummingbird feeder we were given when he was maybe 4. I started to fill it but he cried out, "NO, NO! We don't want those kinds of birds!" The kind who'd delight in a $40 truffled martini. Wilfrid
Research reveals that the truffles are shaved over the olives. If there’s a sidecar at least it’s a big cocktail. And the trouble is that it’s 10 minutes walk from where I am having dinner on my birthday. Thanks for the temptation guys.
hollywood
Better hurry while the drink is only $40. https://punchdrink.com/articles/luxury-martini-cocktail-bars/
Wilfrid
I believe the signature martini at Martinys (here in Manhattan) is $29 and it's certainly not the most expensive cocktail on the menu. $40 is pricey but it's no longer a huge jump from premium cocktails in fancy bars. As I've said, probably multiple times, where I have a problem is paying $20 or more for a martini I can make at least as well, and probably better, at home for a dollar amount in single figures. MitchW
I like this: Quote The Proper Reserve Martini at Cote steakhouse in Miami, $55, is made with Chopin Family Reserve vodka, which retails for $130. The vodka (god forbid) retails for $130 - it's special because it tastes just like the vodka which retails for $30. If this isn't some great marketing, I don't know what is.
voyager
My husband has a catch-all response for stories like this one. "There's too much money out there."

One is made from new potatoes and one from plain old potatoes, it's like comparing the fountain of youth to a regular fountain!

Orik
For the price of one $40 martini you can buy a bottle of Everclear and a can of olives!

Orik
And you get enough change to buy yourself a small bottle of truffle oil!
Wilfrid
I just found the Martinys menu again. Their signature martini and a “snack” of burrata and chips, $44. And no sidecar. I see no olives for a comparison; I know I ate nuts but don’t see them on this menu either. I am just saying, this pricing is not way outside the mainstream. Wilfrid
Oh dear, it’s not good. Kind of sweet. Not truffly. I could make a better martini at home. And the bar is on the second floor of a shopping mall.
Wilfrid
Looking at the recipe I am guessing they went heavy on the Genziana Spitz. That’s why I am getting something that is not Carpano Bianca (certainly not truffles).
