OPUS IN Littleton---Personal Announcement

Recommended Posts

My wife and I had dinner last night with a couple we have known for years. He has a tradeout with Opus in Littleton and when we go with them we do the big dinner trip, which is usually more food than I am comfortable eating. It is very good food and I am surprised that it doesn't get more attention than it does. Michael is IMHO an excellent chef with a very fine crew assting him. It is somewhat expensive for the Denver area but I think the value is there. Dinner for 4 including appetizers, entrees and desserts, (one dessert was a glass of ice wine instead of a regular dessert) was $260.00. $45.00 ea. The plates are beautifully presented on a variety of tableware, the service is very good and most importantly the food is some of the best I have had. It is not as good as Frasca but it is close IMHO. I had a Kobe beef and crab Pho app.( It was presented with raw beef, crab and garnishes in the dish and then the broth was poured over it to just heat the beef). TYhe broth would hve delighted the MF's spicy food livers. It was almost too spicy for me but the flavor was great and the beef was exceptionally good. I also had a mixed lamb grill with a mini rack of lamb and lamb sausage with a side of grannysmith apples a potato puree of some kind and great asparagus. Dessert was a great dark chocolate torte with amarone cherry brandy sauce. The Pho was $15.00, the lamb $39.00, the dessert was $9.00. Gwen had a beutifully plated beet salad, a chimmichurri sauced ribeye steak and a pumpkin, white chocolate cheesecake. Other entrees were a Bison shortrib dish and a Thai seasoned sea bass.I should say he buys the meal and I leave a large tip

I have eaten at Opus 4 or 5 times and and am always impressed with the place. It is on west Littleton Blvd in old downtown Littleton and while it is out of the usual fine dining areas I reccomend it. The website is opusdine.com. They do wine dinners on ocassion and I understand they are very good. I think rlm and fredbram and cheesemonger would find this an attractive dining experiece.

Having said all that the reason for this time to get together, is that I discovered last week that what the Dr thought was a heart blockage that a stent would fix is a condition that will require a triple or quad bypass surgery which will be performed Fri Nov 10th at St Josephs Hosp.

This is just an FYI for some people I like a lot (The MF community in the Denver Boulder area.) The Drs think that things will go as well as possible.. I am in reasonably good health, and there has not been an episode with the heart itself, (no stroke or heart attack) just some arteries going to the heart. The symptoms started about 3 or 4 months ago so it is not something I have ignored a long tim. I am not thrilled to have to heve this happen but I am also not unduly(sp) worried about it ei

I just wanted to pass the info along. I haven't posted anything for a while but I assue you I read the boared on a daily basis and everything is well with all of you.

Thank tou

Bob Cole

A friend that lives near Littleton reported great meals at Opus until she and her husband ordered the Chef’s Premium menu (tasting menu) recently. She said the pacing was very slow and some of the wine pairings were really off (and wine/food presentations were quite lacking in the descriptions department). Of course, she has fond remembrances of Adega like I do, and neither of us have found any other local spots offering a comparable experience (six-course tasting menu with paired wines every night) with the same level of quality. [We’ll see what they think of their first Frasca three-course Monday wine dinner experience later this month.] I must say I’m intrigued by a restaurant where you had Vietnamese, Thai, and Brazilian dishes laid out on the same table and it all somehow worked.

Bob, I wish you well with your upcoming surgery. As Mongo said, I trust you will regale us with tales of the Jello Fruit Cocktail and Mystery Meat Surprise dishes that are in store for you.

Take care (and make sure to update us),

Robin

Thanks to everyone, I am not pleased to have this happen but I have to say I am also not overly worried about it either.

The Dr thinks I will be in the hospital for 5 to 7 days and should be in good shape by Thanksgiving and better than I have been by the first of the year.

Since I am a techno know very little I will report on the wide range of gourmet delights that St Joseph Hospital offers to cardiac patients when I am released and back home. (insert sarcasm and cynical smileys here.)

Thanks again for your best wishes and I expect to be "back on the 'air' soon".

FYI RE Surgery; I got a call from the Drs. office today telling me that they have 6 people needing heart surgery and 4 openings to perform said operations. They asked me (almost begged) to let them move my time to the 14th from the 10th. The main reason they asked me to change is that I am the only one scheduled who is not in the hospital now. I agreed to the change any my operation will now take place on Tues. the 14th.

I really am not thrilled to have several extra days to "stew" about this (pun intended) but I feel that I ampretty good health and I have not had any more problems and the short delay should not change any of the odds for succesful outcome.

I will keep you all informed about things as they happen.

Again I would like to thank everyone who has wished me well and I continue to think good things are going to happen.

Thanks

bob, i think that if they thought you were in any danger they would have moved you into the hospital, not put your procedure off.

by the way, some of my uncles have had triple and quadruple bypasses at your age and above and they're all still raging along.

don't let anyone ever tell you again that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. as you're about to discover, it is through his sternum.

Bob, I'm sure that I speak for others when I say this, but if there's anything that you need, don't hesitate to ask. I'm completely underemployed, and would be happy to assist with shopping, bobcare, bringing over a heart-healthy dinner, anything, just ask. When my former father in law had a quad bypass, I was pleased to bring him tasty healthy food, and would be honored if you would let me feed you as well.

And I promise- no cheese.

Thanks again to everyone for the good wishes and offers of help. It really is great to hear that people care and are willing to do nice things for me. My wife is also greatful for the kind wishes and offers.

I think we are pretty well ready for this episode in our life and while I am less than thrilled with having to have another surgery (this will be # 14) I am confident things will go well and I will be better than I am now by the first of the new year.

I will let the MF community know how things are going hopefully about the 20th or 21st of the month. Thanks again to everyone for all the good wishes and support. It means a great deal to me to have the boost they give me.

Just a quick catch up. I am home (yesterday late afternoon) after a discharge from hell. I will write up a summary in a few days after I get back in the real world, and have a chance to think things through. The short report is the surgery went about as well as could be expected and I am making "normal progress" and will be back in hopefully better condition than I was before in about 6 to 8 weeks.

Thanks again to everyones well wishes and I will write more about the experience shortly. FYI the food was even worse than I thought it was going to be.
