Wilfrid
(I accidentally posted this in The Menu thread.) A curiosity (recommended in a list of obscure but worthwhile movies in Brooklyn Rail). Times Square (1980), produced by Robert Stigwood. Two punky teenage girls on the run and causing havoc. The leads really commit to their roles, balancing out a horribly miscast Tim Curry (an English guy with a plummy accent playing a character called Johnny LaGuardia?). Plenty of silly stuff, like the relative absence of cops despite all the vandalism and misbehavior (they do show up at the end when one of the girls is playing a permit-less concert in Times Square with her rock band). Also, some heartfelt stuff and a killer soundtrack. At one of the character's low moments, "Pissing in the River' suddenly kicks in, and it's perfect. I streamed it free here: https://archive.org/details/times-square-1980-480p
small h
Poker Face is really good so far, and by so far I mean the first episode. There's just nothing not to like about Natasha Lyonne, and the supporting cast is pretty impressive also.
Wilfrid
I loved the first season of Russian Doll, so this is on my list. Just need to finish Wednesday, which is not transcendent but better than it needed to be.

Queen's Gambit is great. I'm also a big fan of Autumn De Wilde's EMMA. (also starring). It was just the sort of froth I needed to get through the early days of the pandemic, and I've happily watched it several times since.

About as much fun as you could pack into an hour of TV. Worth watching the whole thing to get there. And poor Jenna takes some punishment! Okay, it’s not season 2 finale of Euphoria or the last episode of The Prisoner but there we are walking with gods (also known as Zendaya and Patrick MacGoohan). It’s really good. taion
The Lady Eve at at Film Forum's Preston Sturges series. I need to watch more screwball comedies. Though I don't see the point of playing mediocre 35 mm prints... well, not a problem I have at home, anyway.
Wilfrid
Poker Face is pretty good, although it's really Natasha Lyonne that makes it. Makes me reflect on how I choose the relatively little content I watch on streaming services from the titanic amount available. If you just gave me the plot summary of Poker Face I wouldn't have looked at it twice. Tried it because I liked Russian Doll with Natasha Lyonne.
bloviatrix
I started watching Reboot on Hulu because I discovered that a former colleague of mine has a recurring role in it.

StephanieL
Now on the 3rd season of All Creatures Great and Small. N is very happy.
Wilfrid
Poker Face gets better. Episodes 3 and 4 really worked. I have seen complaints about the relatively traditional narrative format. After the largely incomprehensible The Peripheral, that's okay. The format is: a crime (usually murder) gets committed. We see who did it and how. Then Lyonne's character appears and pieces together the clues. It's quite satisfying.
StephanieL
One of the local PBS stations has been showing old episodes of The Carol Burnett Show on Saturday evenings. I used to watch them as a kid, but they're much funnier now that I understand all of the references. I can also appreciate the musical numbers now.
