Neither is very good (I watched the first two episodes of each), and I will probably jettison both. Mr. Mayor has Ted Danson and Heather from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and two or three funny lines per episode. Call Me Kat has Leslie Jordan and Cheyenne Jackson and (a very, very thin) Swoosie Kurtz and some singing. Also curtain calls. I've never seen a curtain call on a sitcom before. they got no fourth wall

bloviatrix
Has anyone watched Call My Agent (Dix Pour Cent) on Netflix? It's about a French Talent Agency. I've watched three episodes and I haven't fully decided what I think yet.
StephanieL
Watched the first episode of the new All Creatures Great and Small on Masterpiece. N has read all of the books and has fond memories of the original series--she's in heaven.

I binged season two - watched over 2 days. The only problem is that with exception of actors with global name recognition like Juliette Binoche or Isabelle Adjani, I don't know who most of the others are that appear. It's like watching Entourage without know who all the cameos are.

Damn, it's beautiful there.

small h
First Cow. I am not nearly as acquainted as I should be with Kelly Reichardt's work (Wendy and Lucy is the only other film of hers I've seen). But this was quietly spectacular. Want a food connection? It's the story of a donut popup in 19th century Oregon.
hollywood
"The Equalizer" with Queen Latifah. I have to give some credit for her repeated reinventions: rapper, balladeer, sitcom actor, talk show host, dramatic actress and now action heroine. CBS seems to have spent a lot on this first episode. But the Queen does not appear to be getting any younger and/or is not having work done. How many stunt doubles will they need? Definitely a lot of good acting from people of color and others, high tech effects, etc. Props for a putdown of an Elon Musk character. Still, she's no Denzel and does not have the cool understated demeanor of Edward Woodward whose definition of the character is being erased.
small h
Gave Clarice a try, and...hard pass. The characters make no fucking sense, and even if you didn't know Silence of the Lambs super well (as I do), you would still think this was just a dumb-ass procedural. Kal Penn and Jayne Atkinson are wasted. I am angry. Anyway, the "real" Catherine Martin (Brooke Smith) is now on Big Sky, which I like a lot, so that's some solace.
