They sent me bagels, bialys, 2 kinds of smoked salmon, sable, whitefish/baked salmon salad, and pickled herring with onions. So this weekend (and for many days to come), I got to pretend I was still in NYC: coffee, appetizing, and the paper (including today's NY Times). This is one of the world's great gifts. I love sending them to people!

Wilfrid
Duck egg over easy with ham, consumed in front of Meet the Press with Chuck Todd, although the presenter looked nothing like Chuck Todd.
small h
During the pandemic, I sent my parents and sister care packages from The Pickle Guys, and they are still talking about it. Mind you, these are the exact same pickles I serve them when they come for holiday brunch, but somehow they were much, much better delivered.
voyager
Breakfast! I don' wanna talk about it. After a bumpy night with no electricity aka no AC or fans, we still got up early. DDH had made me coffee. I was thinking dry cereal. He suggested bacon, potatoes and eggs. Aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhh. sure, sweetie. So by standing flashlight, that menu appeared. Easier done than said, but certainly sounded iffy.

I have a birthday next month...hint, hint 😉 . JK. But, next time someone asks me what's different I might want for that (or for Christmas or a housewarming gift for my new place if they ever finish it) I now have an answer! Thank you!

I swear by this battery-operated fan - saved my sweaty self when we lost power for several hours recently in 98-degree weather. And when I went through our Texas snowpocalypse of more than 5 days without power in February 2021, this 30-day lantern was a true friend in the dark.
voyager
Power off for 24 hours, on for 18, off again now. In addition, landline phone is dead as batteries in the village central box died. Several frustrating calls to AF&T finally resulted in good conversation with a sane tech who is sending a generator. in the meantime, thanking the gods for drop of temps into the ‘80s AND cell phones! We’re on the road heading home to civilization!
small h
Scrambled egg with balcony pepper, onion and mozz.

small h
My dad's reading Pepin's chicken book, and he alerted me to a recipe called Eggs Jeanette (for Pepin's mother). It's very nice, but quite garlicky, as the garlic stays raw.
