Maybe the combination of very high temps and dry grass everywhere has knocked some sense into people. Horrible here. Using headphones I really never use (playing Alice Coltrane but if it gets worse it will be high volume Merzbow).
StephanieL
I spoke too soon. As soon as twilight hit, the artillery barrage commenced and went on for hours. Kitties were not amused, though they seem to be taking the noise better each year.
Wilfrid
I walked across Broadway near my apartment today and saw a huge mess of abandoned firework crates. I hate it all. I hope they’re done.

I hope they’re done. Lots of debris and a couple of abandoned crates down the block from me. Another annoyance: after landing back in SFO after our European adventure, we stayed overnight in an airport hotel. Next day, I found a broken taillight cover on my car. I've no idea where or when it actually happened--it could very well have gotten broken in the offsite long-term parking lot. So I spent some time yesterday on the phone with my insurance company and the local PD.
maison rustique
I was stunned that there were just as many fireworks (bombs) last night as there were on the 4th. And of course, they go on until around 1 am. Where do these people get all the money they spend on these things? Don't they realize what they spent on fireworks could feed a family of 4 for a month? I can only hope this is not going to go on tonight, too.
bloviatrix
Spouse borrowed my phone this morning and now it has disappeared. It seems I never activated the Find My Phone feature and there's no way to activate it remotely. Granted it's an iPhone 11 that I've had for 4.5 years, but it was in good condition and I felt no need to replace it. Yet another thing I need to deal with. And now, I have Covid again, which is tres annoying. I swear, this felt as if it came on in about 30 minutes, from a few sneezes after dinner, to testing at 2 AM, when it was positive.

Evelyn
Better (comparatively speaking), or worse? It's been rising quickly here for the last couple of months. It's currently showing "winter flu season" numbers 😱.

I was running 101℉ yesterday, which had almost normalized by last night; this morning it was back up to 100.7℉, but now a few hours later, I'm back in my normal range (which tends to be around 98). It's kinda weird. Edited July 15 by MitchW
Mitchell101
Down in Florida helping my dad who has been battling some health issues. One of my brothers is here too. My 86 year old mother and younger brother tested positive Saturday, my dad and I are still negative thankfully. Symptoms to date have been very mild. Now I'm staying with my dad in his room and my mom is in mine. What is so bizarre is me and my brother have been all over each other and my dad providing care for him yet me and my dad are negative. bloviatrix
Kid - and all of his stuff - leaves for camp next week. Housekeeper came today so I needed to get it off the floor of both his room and the living room. You could fit a body in either of the duffels. This isn't even all of it. Wilfrid
I have adult crap but because it’s all neatly put away it can be quite disturbing to realize how much there is. A visitor to my apartment described me to a friend as “the man with a thousand books.” A thousand? 🤣
StephanieL
The adult crap in my house isn't laid out much neater than bloviatrix's kid's crap.
Wilfrid
My daughter is fairly minimalist but it was extraordinary the mess she could make with a few things (plus unwashed dishes and a dog).
bloviatrix
I think I'm going to need a second storage until for all the camp crap when he gets home. Between the massive bags, the linens and towels, the mattress topper, the sleeping bag, etc. Because there's no way I'm going to want any of this stuff intermingled with our regular stuff. I went to camp for years, I know how gross it is. (You should should the things I that are on the list - a collapsible chair, because the kids sit on the porch and hang)
StephanieL
I take it the porches don't have stoops. Or there are cooties all over the porch floors.
bloviatrix
@StephanieL I've never been to this camp so I'm not sure what the layout is. But I don't remember bringing all this crap with me.
StephanieL
Just as, I'm sure, our parents didn't nearly travel with as much gear for the kids as parents do these days. 😀 Edited July 20 by StephanieL
voyager
Long before car seat mandates, my mother would fill in the void between backseat and front seat with our luggage and goods, make a bed for me on the backseat and we traveled all over the western United States. StephanieL
N is on her way to South Africa for the next 3 weeks. The pipe under our garage sink sprung a leak as I was doing laundry this morning, necessitating a large mopping-up job. Meanwhile, the drain in one of the bathtubs (not the one we usually use) appears to be clogged. How do I know this? Well, the water I mopped up had to go somewhere.... Going to be a long 3 weeks. Evelyn
Crowdstrike's problem has totally hosed Delta's operations. My upcoming Tuesday-Thursday trip, barring a miracle, is a goner. The "good" news is, I went through DL's last meltdown in 2016. And knew their beyond ancient IT system would be a disaster. Booked a backup on AAnother Airline. Delta has had 1205 cancellations/1709 delays. American-76 cancelled/1605 delays. At least I have chance 🫰🙏

Now on JetBlue this am. Flying without status sucks but at least I’m getting home….
