mongo Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 (edited) this photograph of a very tranquil sistine chapel was taken just a few seconds before the guy at left-front told me photography was prohibited. i didn't bother saying i was photographing the crowd, not the ceiling. my favourite part of the experience was that they periodically, very loudly, over a microphone, call for silence. Monday, son had to drive two sprogs 3 hours to camp (SF to Pollock Pines), and return by 3pm to take third kid to debate camp in Palo Alto (blazer, pencil skirt, collared shirt required). Summer fun parenting two age groups. Quote

StephanieL Posted June 25, 2025 Posted June 25, 2025 Got ripped off big time by a taxi driver in Vienna, just going from the main train station to our hotel (which was not all that far from the station). Not thinking clearly or I would have seen the scam right away. (N didn't spot it either.) 1 1 Quote
Wilfrid Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 I hate fireworks so much. I hated them as a child. I still do. Nothing against this holiday. Growing up they celebrated a horrific execution, Guy Fawkes, but I also remember the endless stories of awful burns and injuries suffered by small explosives being triggered in small social spaces. Will be putting the headphones on soon for the rest of the ghastly night. 1 Quote
StephanieL Posted July 5, 2025 Posted July 5, 2025 I like fireworks when I'm at a sanctioned event. I hate them when they're being shot off in my neighborhood, where the houses are all close together. I really hate the ones that are just huge booms, big enough to shake the house. Quote

Wilfrid Posted August 21, 2025 Posted August 21, 2025 I searched on Google for oldest bars in Richmond, Va. Google AI overviews stepped in to help. It listed four results. The first, when I researched it, didn't exist: a classic hallucination based on misreading a couple of existing places (not bars). The other three results were in New York (Pete's, Fraunces and I can't remember), each prefaced by the phrase "While not in Richmond..." AS. Artificial Stupidity. Quote

Although the cop said I might be able to convince the DA to lower the mileage if I write a note explaining my previously impeccable record. In my defense, the stretch of road I was driving is great. Nicely paved, very little traffic, curvy - but not too curvy. It's fun to drive and I've driven it many, many times over the years. (Rte. 17 between Roscoe and Hancock). I know there are often cops near Monticello and further north need Windsor, but I've never seen them on this bit of road. Edited August 22, 2025 by bloviatrix Quote

small h Posted September 2, 2025 Posted September 2, 2025 I touched something in my upstate garden (cucumber vine? Queen Anne's lace?) that gave me a mess of nasty blisters on my right pinky. I'm running out of body parts that there's nothing wrong with. 1 Quote

maison rustique Posted October 31, 2025 Posted October 31, 2025 After waking up at 2:30 am and not being able to get back to sleep, I finally got up at 4:30. Went down to make my coffee. The filter folded in on itself and I have a cup full of sludge and grounds. Harrumph. 1 Quote

I went to refill one of my pepper cruets and the pepper container had got liquid inside and was just sludge. It doesn't really matter, but how? 1 Quote
