GerryOlds2TheReturnofGerry
Sadly, it doesn't. Mine was missing the curled bit of truffle on the right side. I think I was a couple of seats down from you. We were towards the middle of the bar. Still, I would have happily let you steal a truffle if you'd asked.
small h
Dammit, another opportunity squandered.
Wilfrid
No mention of Alex Stupak's Otter here. I just read Rosner on it in the new NYer and it certainly sounds interesting.

Did you end up staying for dinner or going elsewhere?

Ironically, I would have spent 2x more if they had had the RW menu on offer.

I sorta remember them doing the thing with bonito shavings, making them look as if they were alive. went to Veerays last week. kid loved the lamb chops, i got my crispy okra. overall the food was very good. odd concept and they only offered us the prix fixe menu, we were the only other table so service was great. the person who chose the restaurant was curious to see how the whole speakeasy theme was presented which is how we ended up there. MitchW
What didn't he learn the first couple of times around? Guy Fieri’s New Times Square Restaurant Launches With a Sputter Quote Over the weekend, Fieri returned to Times Square with Chicken Guy!, a fried chicken chain he has been expanding across the country (138 W. 42nd Street, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue). It’s a big moment for the brand: Of the 25 locations that are open or coming soon, this is the first in New York City. The original Chicken Guy! opened in 2018 at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The scene: Times Square, of course, has changed since Fieri was there last. The neighborhood has become the epicenter of fast-casual fried chicken, with new locations of the Filipino brand Jollibee, Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane’s, and Birdbox, the offshoot of a Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco. That might explain why the crowds were thin on opening day at Chicken Guy!. The Fieri spot was deserted an hour after doors opened at 11 a.m. on January 31. There were a couple of people seated toward the back of the restaurant, past the open kitche n and next to the Jumbotron playing reruns of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, but otherwise, the dining room was empty. small h
A report from the oden omakase at Dashi Okume. I wasn’t as blown away as I expected to be - this was, in my opinion, a missed opportunity to showcase several different formulations of dashi, and perhaps some more exotic ingredients - but it was a lovely meal nonetheless. My favorites were the flatfish, the onigiri, the shrimp satsumaage and the daikon. The nori deserves a special shout-out, as it was excellent. Pix are in the order listed on the menu (except the bonus red bowl of mochi and I think grated yam). We shared some sake carafes but did not get the paring (I wasn’t feeling THAT splurge-y.) Although we were a party of four, seated at two-tops pushed together, the staff somewhat hilariously treated us as if we were two separate couples and served us at slightly different times. I wonder what they thought when we all piled into the same Lyft.

small h
I'm probably alone in my curiosity about the New York Food Court on Roosevelt Ave. in Flushing, since I assume most people on this board have already been there. But not me! Until today! It was, as they say on the Empire Szechuan menu about the Buddhist Delight, a spendiferous array. My favorites were the snail noodle soup, with excellent and impossibly long noodles, and not much evidence of snail. And these razor clams with mushrooms and a mess of other stuff, in a light broth. I also loved these tiger skin eggs, but I think I was in the minority. Edited March 30 by small h
