Carolyn Tillie
Oh, Helena.... can I go on and on about this. It is a medium I love and there are so many inspirational artists who has influenced me. The first teacher who really had impact on me was Helen Shirk -- she showed me how to color metal. She forges and fabricates in copper (mostly) and the coloring is done with Prismacolors: http://www.ganoksin.com/eip04/artworks/41-1.jpg While at San Diego State, I was unable to take classes with another venerable superstar in the Metalsmithing community, but rectified that this past April when I took a week-long intensive with Arline Fisch. She literally wrote the book on Textile Techniques in Metal and much of her work can be seen here. Jumping from Arline's textile techniques is Mary Lee Hu who has produced pieces like this: http://www.jra.org/craftart/awards/images/hu3.jpg Richard Mawdsley is another pioneer, using tubing and miniature forming to create miniatures. This piece is called Feast Bracelet (the idea that it is a bracelet will give you an idea of the skill involved to create such tiny place settings). http://thedesignspace.net/art/gallery/d/14...06ba49d19b79450 That just for starters...
