foodie52
Huh? My email just popped right up. It's synched to my computer.
prasantrin
We couldn't sync her accounts, possibly in part because the kindle is registered to me, but also because we couldn't get my computer hooked up to the internet, so everything we did was Kindle-based. Don't know if either of those things really made a difference, but I'd like to think so just so I don't feel so kindle-illiterate. Do you have the fire hd? I heard the earlier fires had flash, but the hd doesn't.
Stone
The tactile experience is certainly worse Nathan, I can't agree with this. It is OH SO MUCH EASIER to hold an eReader than a two-sided paper book (especially when the paper book is large). I only want to use my (Sony) eReader now and avoid paper books altogether. Ditto. I like to read when I eat, and I tend to buy and read hard covers. I usually have to ask for an extra salad plate to keep the book propped open. E-readers are superior to books in every way, except the aesthetic of having a lot of books on the shelf.

I do agree, but I assume Nathan is referring to properties other than weight. The main advantage of paper books is that you can easily flip back and forth and find passages. "Search" on the Kindle is much slower, and often doesn't work.
Stone
Get an iPad.
Wilfrid
iPad mini, maybe. iPad is too big.
Sneakeater
You can't write "This is total bullshit" and underline it three times in the margin of a Kindle.

Peter Creasey
You can make notes on the Sony eReaders.
foodie52
Re: ipad. Don't want to pay. My Kindle Fire does everything I need. My 86 year old mother has an ipad that she loves. My brother bought it for her. I don't know if my Kindle Fire is HD. I have had it a couple of years now.
Nathan
You can install Flash on the Fire HD. Here: http://www.groovypost.com/howto/install-flash-player-kindle-fire-hd/ With that said, flash is going away and there isn't really a reason to use it anymore (no one has told that to restaurant websites unfortunately). foodie52
Oh I guess I DO have that, since I can watch Youtube on it and movies and stuff.
Nathan
you don't need flash to watch youtube or movies. Most sites use html5 now for playing movies. Flash is the old technology. Even Adobe (it's creator) has said that they're essentially discontinuing it. (iPhones and iPads have never been compatible with Flash btw)
Stone
Amazon just unveiled Kindle Matchbook.* Amazon will search all of your past book purchases, and if a "match" exists, allow you to buy the Kindle book for $2.99 or less. At the moment, only 6 of my past purchases are available for "match", but the site says that more titles will be added. I think this is great -- especially going forward. I like purchasing real books, but reading e-books is so much easier. *I'm sure Nathan has been beta-testing this for months.
