Daniel
Veselka http://www.veselka.com/ Went here late last night around 3 am.. The place was fairly packed.. Just looking for dessert we got a couple of chocolate egg creams, some blintzes, a banana cream pie, and rice pudding.. Your basic little late night snack.. The star of the show were the blintzes. I dont know how this would translate in the day time but, last night it was a really good chocolate egg cream.. Banana cream pie and rice pudding both really needed some hot caramel.. But it was pretty fresh and had nice cold chunks of banana in it.. Rice pudding was pretty good.. Was served way to cold and it made it feel a lot less creamy then it tasted.. Daisy
I lived practically across the street from Veselka for years and years. I am not a fan, always preferred the now sadly closed Teresa's.
Lippy
It's Christmas borscht season there: deep, clear, pleasantly tart/sour liquid in which floats ethereal porky dumplings.
Ampelman
What's with the Crêpes Suzette folding on the blintzes?

Sneakeater
It closed a year or two ago. But you'll no doubt be relieved to know that the Brooklyn Heights branch is still open, for all the times you must find yourself there when dropping into NYC. Daisy
Has she imported the creepy delivery guy from First Avenue as the Brooklyn delivery guy (think a cross between Boo Radley and Jason from Halloween) ?

I've got family in Brooklyn Heights. We tend to meet at their old stomping grounds in Brighton Beach. But now with Mrs. Stahl's gone, this is a good thing to know. (No facetiousness intended). We used to eat there before our Sunday matinees at the Pearl, on St. Mark's, and we were there in February. So far this season we've had to go to the place that replaced Kiev, yuck. And, being inspired by the above and disinterested in going outside once home from work, we just finished off one roast chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach and one chicken liver dinner with mashed potatoes and cucumber salad, delivered to our door for $20 total (and not by the creepy guy either). Supplemented by our own supply of a nice vintage Pellegrino, some leftover white wine, & a couple of chocolate covered graham crackers... very good meal.
