foodfancier
Surprised that with his drugs, etc, he did live longer than I would have thought ... Remember with great pleasure Ike Tina's "River Deep, Mountain High" ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obqGUJ4X7T4...feature=related
flyfish
Although he was vilified over his treatment of Tina (with justification), one cannot ignore his impact as a musician or a producer.
Wilfrid1
Yes, there are many shits in popular music, but he was an important, influential and talented one. Many identify "Rocket 88" as the first rock 'n' roll record.
splinky
Although he was vilified over his treatment of Tina (with justification), one cannot ignore his impact as a musician or a producer. Ike, Phil Spector and Berry Gordy created some spectacular music and had great eyes for talent. Back in the day, it seems that misogynist tendencies were a valid social predictor of great musical production skills. (Wonder just how much jail time ol' Phil will get)
Wilfrid1
How is Chuck Berry, anyway? ETA: 81 years old, touring, and scheduled to play BB King's on December 30.
guajolote
How is Chuck Berry, anyway? ETA: 81 years old, touring, peeking at girls in the bathroom, and scheduled to play BB King's on December 30. I fixed it for you. RIP Ike.
foodie52
BB's coming to Austin next year! RIP Ike.

mongo_jones
utter bastard, great musician. i saw him play with a band of younger people at the long beach blues festival a few years ago--as dynamic as ever, and didn't look his age. i think i've related before the story out of "the true adventures of the rolling stones", stanley booth's account of "let it bleed" tour: the stones had ike and tina as their backing band for part (they're seen briefly in "gimme shelter", blowing them off the stage). apparently, the stones were terrified of ike and made not one move towards the ikettes. I thought Mick and Tina did a number together in which Mick peeled away Tina's wraparound, revealing a mini. Maybe that was a later tour without Ike.
