Russ Parsons
hmmm, so it seems the consensus is the problem with food tv is putting more emphasis on presentation than on substance. you prefer shows with substance ... unless the presentation in some way irritates you. splinky
"food tv" hit its high point with my appearance on "ready set cook". they've never been able to top that or even match it, in terms of substance or presentation.

Liza
Are we talking Food Network or just Food TV?
bloviatrix
What's interesting about the article is that he never talks about the programming on PBS which is much higher in quality. Â Â

I prefer substance, originality, execution and content geared towards good cooking rather than circusy stuff (the biggest candy factory!!! bullshit cake creations, stupid and sirupy hosts like theContessa, the de Laurentis femme, Rachel, Paula -please kill me slowly-). There must be some people watching the Food Network, I just don't know any of them.   I have to be the only one that thinks like that.
Heather
Rick Bayless' weird, halting speech pattern makes me insane. He talks like he's stoned. It used to bug me. Now I just imagine he's high, and that makes me a little more tolerant of it.

foodie52
You know who is watching food tv the most? Â Kids. Whenever I teach a kids' cooking class, I ask, "Who watches the Food Network?" Nearly every hand goes up enthusiastically. Â That would explain a lot now, wouldn't it?
rancho_gordo
That would explain a lot now, wouldn't it? Â It would certainly explain Unwrapped! Â
Liza
And yet, when I worked there, they were convinced kids weren't watching. Unwrapped was HUGE with adults. Heck, they even launched a thankfully short-lived game show, Trivia Unwrapped, based on its popularity.
