Even the obscure stuff like that mick Jagger song in Performance.

Great Googly Moogly!

I was saving this for last, as a final coup de grace to firmly establilsh me in the pantheon of insufferable ecclectica-flogging self-aggrandizing show-offs.

It's not a Stones song, but a Jagger solo job. The version on the OST of Perfomance is the definitive one.

The opening riff doesn't really qualify as "most recognizable by a lot of people", but once you've heard it, you'll never forget it. It gives me goose pimples every time I hear it.

I'm linking two clips: the first is from the OST, in all its glory. The second is the actual movie clip, where unfortunately the opening riff is talked over.

Ladies and gents, I give you little Mick and Ry Cooder -- Memo From Turner:

I suppose it's worth mentioning here that if you buy the OST, you will also get an astonishingly rockin' piece by a young Randy Newman and a super-cool number by proto-rappers The Last Poets. And not much else.

The sad thing is, I only scored "birthday party DJ" on that pop-knowledge quiz.

If anyone walks past my office right now as shame on a nigga is blasting out my thinkpad -- I'm gonna have some explaining to do.

It should be noted that the Randy Newman version of "Gone Dead Train" is infinitely better than the version on the first Crazy Horse album.

It should also be noted that "Gone Dead Train" is perhaps the greatest white rock song about erectile dysfunction (although Randy Newman would be the first to admit that isn't a patch on such great blues erectile dysfunction anthems as "Stones in My Passway").

Oh gosh, we never should have taught her how to embed, now there's no stopping her!

There are certain types of knowledge that you need to keep out of the wrong hands. I suggest that no one gives her any help with her nuclear weapons program.

The problem is of course you hit PLAY have a chuckle and hit PAUSE and go on tot he next one but the PAUSE merely pauses, the file is still downloading. So you have to wait, hit refresh the page or not find out what cleverness awaits.

Not with Windows Vista & IE 7.9 or whatever it is I've got. I can Play/Pause them all in rapid-fire w/o a single refresh.

Damn Vista's got to be good for something!
