joiei
I picked up a copy of the June issue of Texas Monthly today and they have proclaimed a new #1 bbq place in Texas. Snow's BBQ in Lexington, where is Lexington anyway, and Snow's is only open for 4 hours a week. That seems a pretty astonishing statement considering the Lockhart hold on that title for so long. In this bbq coverage, I found a poem that was very right on, here is a part of the poem by Tony Hoagland The waitress says the man at Table Three is making noises. You'd think she would be used to grunting when the sun goes down at Melvin's Rib Chateau, but this one's whispering amen into his marmalade, getting sauce all over his Armani. It could be he is an escapee from a gated community there is more this was my favorite part. Now to go read more what they have to say about the state of Que in Texas. Peter Creasey
where is Lexington Lexington, TX . As would be expected, the article overlooked some venues that should obviously be included. \ Good article, though.
Jaymes
My daughter's own sweet husband is from Lexington. In fact, they're there visiting for the Memorial Day weekend. Obviously I need to investigate.

joiei
Who's the author? Katy Vine, Patricia Sharp, S.C. Gywnne and Paul Burka all seem to have comments. At least the very bad bbq place I went to in Brownwood was not listed. Now I can stop in Abilene at Harold's Pit Bar-B-Q the next time I go down to San Angelo. There is also Scholl Bros Bar-B-Que in Paris to check out the next time I go to Shreveport and Tom and Bingo's Hickory Pit Bar-B-Que in Lubbock which is between me and my cousins house. Big Boy's in Sweetwater gets honorable mention so I need to check it out also the next time I head to Midland.

foodie52
Here ya go. I emailed Pat Sharpe, asking her if the brisket was REALLY that good. Here's her reply: Yeah, it really was. As good as I've ever had. That's not to say that sometimes it might be just very good, but I was impressed.
joiei
Definitely sounds like this needs to be investigated further. Now that my nephew lives in Austin, it will happen this summer. Sometime.
Jaymes
Well, I can't find Texas Monthly out here in California (although the helpful young man at the local Barnes & Noble did tell me, after first shaking his head and saying he didn't think such a thing existed, that imagine that he had found it listed in his computer ), so I've yet to read the entire magazine, but in the online articles, I can't find Black's anywhere. Not in the Top Fifty. Not even in Honorable Mentions. Must have gone seriously downhill, eh?
Peter Creasey
I can't find Black's anywhere. J, Since Smitty's and Kreuz Market were featured, it is hard to imagine a 3rd joint in Lockhart being included. Also, I wonder how good their methodology was.

I will also have a copy of Oklahoma Today which is also all about bbq, only this is Oklahoma BBQ, the best kind.
Jaymes
Been trying to telephone my daughter, currently spending the Memorial Day weekend out in Lexington, to get her to query her in-laws about Snow's. But the son-in-law's family lives on a ranch outside of town and cell service is spotty. On Monday, daughter & hubby are driving back to Houston so it looks like we've missed this Saturday. Still, it's very nice to know I've got a connection and a guest room anytime I want it in the town with the number one BBQ in all of Texas! Heheheh.
