Wilfrid Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 This has happened to me before but not for a long time. I am headed down Broadway around 64th Street and two people stop and ask me if there are any good restaurants around here. "Like burgers and fries?" Rendered speechless, of course. I pointed them downtown and assured them they would find something. Quote

For these you come to San Francisco? 3 Quote
StephanieL Posted January 12, 2025 Author Posted January 12, 2025 Some people only want familiar. Hence the popularity of Applebee's at Fisherman's Wharf and Olive Garden in Times Square. Quote
hollywood Posted January 12, 2025 Posted January 12, 2025 I looked on the site for the Venice Biennale 2025 and found this quote from the curator: "To face a burning world, architecture must harness all the intelligence around us. I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to curate the Biennale Architettura 2025”. A little close to home. Quote

MitchW Posted January 30, 2025 Posted January 30, 2025 Just... Midday yesterday, getting on at the 68th St./Hunter College 6 train headed downtown. I was suspect at first, but the car was clean and 100% empty. Of course, at 59th St., a psycho got on and sat directly across from me, even though every other seat was empty. Quote

Steve R. Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 I have never - and will never - stay in an empty subway car. I know you have better survival skills than to do so. You got lucky. 2 2 Quote

Wilfrid Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 I see Sex Pistols are commencing a North American tour with a John Lydon impersonator, Frank Carter, on vocals. They have, of course, recorded without Lydon in the distant past, but I don't believe they've attempted to replace him with a singer from outside the group. Unless you count Ronnie Biggs. 1 Quote
Wilfrid Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 Danny Meyer's The View is serving a pastrami sandwich-flavored martini. Gin is fat-washed with dry-aged beef tallow and spun into a wet martini with a whisper of aquavit, which adds the caraway- and dill–spiked flavor of rye bread. The garnish? Katz’s pastrami spice rub, naturally, and a pickle. 2 Quote

Add chunks of pastrami, Orwasher’s rye, and a spicy mustard swirl. I’ve been threatening to make it for years. 2 Quote
maison rustique Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 When his kids were young, my husband and I always used to tell his kids we were having chicken-ripple ice cream. We weren't of course, but we'd love the horrified look on their faces. Quote

Salt & Straw created a limited-edition "Pastrami on Rye" ice cream for its first New York City location, which deconstructs the classic sandwich. The flavor features butterscotch ice cream with pastrami, a mustard custard swirl, and toasted rye crumble. It was made in collaboration with Carnegie Deli and is part of a New York-themed series of inventive flavors. Edited December 5, 2025 by splinky Quote
