2008 College Football

I watched most of the 4th quarter & gosh but the telecast was atrocious. Terrible live camera angles. Abysmal use of replay technology. Poor commentary that bore no relation to what was happening on screen from guys who sounded like they'd taken a few too many hits in the head.

Apparently Fox thinks all they have to do is throw a bunch of cameras into a stadium & turn some morons loose. Yikes. What a waste.

As bad as that was, those hideous commercials for Dodge trucks confirmed my feelings that Chrysler can't go bankrupt quick enough to suit me.

Really, they want a bailout & they still assault our sensibilities with crap like that.

It's a tough sell. They are competing with the porn industry.

THe story as told by today's World.

BCS Bummer

OU loses fifth straight Bowl Championship Series contest

The unstoppable Oklahoma offense was stopped. Cold.

And now, the Stoops Skid has reached five.

It is a sad day here in Okie land. I wonder how much longer they will continue to pay Stoops that $5,000,000 without a national title now. just thinking out loud.

Stolen from a local posting

OU Bowl jokes...

Q. Why does Bob Stoops eat his cereal on a plate?

A. He can't handle anything in a bowl.

Q. How do you make an OU Omlet?

A. Put them in a bowl and beat for 3 hours.

Q. What does Bob Stoops hate soup?

A. Anything in a bowl makes him choke.

Q. Why does Bob Stoops pee outside his office?

A. The toilet bowl in his bathroom is too much to handle.

Who is going to do better than Stoops? all the guy does is have year after year of winning seasons with BCS bowl games that earn the school and the conference millions of dollars. Who would they replace him with? Unless it is Urban Meyer, I don't see anyone else doing better. Florida is just a machine. They have homegrown talent, a great coach, endless money, and that all equals great teams.

Someone needs to tell OU fans Bud Wilkinson ain't walking through that door. Chuck Fairbanks ain't walking through that door.

Stoops has made 4 NC games and won one, and has a winning record against UT.

Or maybe just replay some footage from the Switzer-Stoops interregnum. John Blake now there is a great coach

Having grown up in Florida, I would say let the SEC fail. But now I live in Okie land, these guys are even worse than Alabama fans, so let them loose. Is there any way that both teams can loose?

that's pretty much what's happening right now. if these are the two best teams in the land, i am the virgin of guadeloupe.

utah should be #1 tomorrow. of course, they won't be.

Bitter much. Make a rational argument other then "They are undefeated" for Utah being Nat Champ. Undefeated can't be the sole rationale when the teams don't have a meaningful number of common opponents.

well, in the absence of playoffs we don't have any way of judging these things clearly. one thing we do have is a record against a common opponent. florida barely beat alabama, utah stomped them. usc lost to oregon state, utah beat them. the fact that utah has had no trouble handling teams from the so-called major conferences and has beaten teams from those conferences that the elite teams had trouble with should make us less leery of the rest of their schedule.

i don't really think they are the best team in the country, but this last week, and this title game have shown that the bcs can't really match up the two best teams in the country except on very rare occasions (as for example when texas cheated and beat usc in the rose bowl). i also think that in terms of the rationale used to rank college teams in the polls that determines the bulk of the bcs utah should be #1. that they are not is due to the prejudices of the voters who think that sec/big 12/big 10/pac 10 teams are necessarily better than the others.

While I agree there should be a playoff I happen to think USC and or Texas have much better arguments for having been screwed then does Utah.

I really really think if you are comparing teams you have to ignore bowls. Alabama just didn't show up in the first quarter against Utah. They just had nothing play for. As someone on EDSBS said "That was Bamas third biggest game this year, and some would say it was their fifth biggest (SECCG, Auburn, UGA, Tenn) - that was the biggest game in the history of the University of Utah" I also think Bama overacheived all year on the back of the Evil ones tremendous coaching and motivational skills. Once they got themselves into a situation where there was no "Win this and we get X" it was impossible for them to maintain their level of intensity - hence 1Q Sugar Bowl.

I'd also point out that Utah was two missed chipshot FG and some terrible quarterback play from losing to TCU at home - who got blasted by OU 35-10. Utah barely beat Michigan on opening day when Michigan was the worst team in the Big Ten and it was their first ever game runnning the RichRod spread.

Also beating Bama 31-20 isn't "Squeaking by" - especially when Utah beat them 31-17 and that was "A Stomping"

I'm not saying my argument is better then your argument - I'm saying "They beat team X who beat team Y' is lame.

The real answer is "Pete Carroll convinces him team to play with intensity for every game of the season, and their non conf BCS opponents end up being non-chumps - and we get the UF-USC championship game we all wanted to see" The lesson in all this (beyond as always - its tOSU's fault) is play your big games late and make sure your conf has a good PR guy.
