Between Oxford Circus and Lord's Cricket Ground

Recommended Posts

It seems it closed around 2002-ish.

The story, since everyone obviously wants to hear it, is that a businessman called Frank Crocker sank all him money into the construction of this Taj Mahal of a boozer on the understanding that the main terminal for Brunel's Great Western Railway was to be located in Maida Vale. When it was built, in fact, in Paddington, Crocker is supposed to have leapt to his death from the top of the pub. Some of this, I suspect, is apocryphal - but hence the name.

I'm forgetting another restaurant in St John's Wood (literally, I can't remember the name). Old school "Jewish", bottom of a mansion block, dessert trolley. Anyone?

Shame about Crocker's, beautiful boozer.

Beautiful pub, Crocker's Folly, but the times I went there the beer was lousy. The Warrington in Little Venice was a preferable Victorian stunner. Now a Ramsay gastropub, I believe.
