We have threads for annoyances and what made us cheerful, but then there's those weird things that happen.....   My workplace is particularly fertile ground for the surreal. 2 current examples:

Yeah, me too.   As soon as I'm a real member, I'll upload a real avatar.   Or did you mean my sig?

You talkin' to me?

A few weeks back, I noticed a large plot of vegetables - bok choy, mustard greens, etc. - growing next to the FDR.

I decided today that I would try to, um, liberate a modest bunch, in advance of the storm, which is probably going to kill the plants anyway. When I got there, one of the gardeners (I learned there are actually several separate plots) was doing some harvesting. We didn’t have much language in common, but I tried to convey that I lived in the building across the street, and would she mind terribly if I took a small amount of greens? She gave me this.

I need to learn to say “small amount” in Chinese.

Part surreal, part annoying, part disgusting: encountering a live rat in the outdoors compost bin.  Didn't bite me or even touch me, thank goodness.  After all of my years in NYC, this is the closest encounter with a rat I've ever had.

Oh, Sweetie, come to my house.   Our rats are fat and bushy from apples, lemons, the occasional off season strawberry.   We leave enough produce for them, and they for us.
