We have threads for annoyances and what made us cheerful, but then there's those weird things that happen.....   My workplace is particularly fertile ground for the surreal. 2 current examples:

Yeah, me too.   As soon as I'm a real member, I'll upload a real avatar.   Or did you mean my sig?

Even though newer Samsung TVs are made up of exactly two parts - the plastic back and the LCD panel - they will still send out (extremely efficient and pleasant) technicians to replace the LCD panel instead of just replacing the TV. Maybe it's very expensive plastic.

Driving through the Delta.   There’s a wildfire on one of the islands.   It’s peatland.   First the vegetation burns, then the “soil” itself.   It’s being left to burn itself which could take weeks.   In the meantime. Visibility is about a half mile and air quality abismal.

Definitely spring for the deluxe version that also includes an extra wide glass fermentation weight, 'cause the one that comes with the basic package is not going to be able to keep four cornichons from floating to the top of a half-gallon container.

I make my own! With yard sale jars and a ziploc full of brine as a weight! When I was just starting to do my own cucumber pickling, The Pickle Guys gave me a pint of pickling spice because they are awesome.

Sweet Jesus, yes!    I've been making half-sours for years.    A crock or big glass container, salt, water and cukes.    Use anything heavy for a weight...a heavy china plate works find.   My treasure is a slate disc used for making sauerkraut that I bought in Lancaster County, but I use it mostly as a cheese plate.
