The surrealism of everyday life

Recommended Posts

I was at the Korean fruitstand looking for Unagi sauce.  (I know, I know:  I can make it myself.  But I was walking right by the Korean fruitstand.)  There were no longer any Asian condiments in their condiment aisle.

I asked the counterwoman where the Asian condiments went.  "You want Aisle 8:  the Oriental aisle", she replied.

She said it.  I didn't.

We have threads for annoyances and what made us cheerful, but then there's those weird things that happen.....   My workplace is particularly fertile ground for the surreal. 2 current examples:

Yeah, me too.   As soon as I'm a real member, I'll upload a real avatar.   Or did you mean my sig?

You talkin' to me?

Many years ago we were hosting a couple of American technicians who came to service some mega million piece of equipment they thought was good for us 20 year olds to play with. Their brief said we were taking them to an Oriental restaurant and boy were they surprised when it turned out to mean that orient where a spread of salads is followed by kebabs, and not the one where things are sweet and sour.

Not the most referred to cookbook in my collection. Maybe also not the most complete.

But - it's there!

My mother used to have that book, along with many others in the series.  I remember a few being held together with rubber bands.

I'm pretty sure that mine was culled from her small collection of cookbooks, as I was cleaning out her house.

Baldor's systems have been down for five days. Baldor restaurants are fraying at the seams and yet you will hear nothing of it.

The entire youth soccer IT ecosystem has been shut down for the last ten days and the vendor won't tell people what's happened.

A particularly annoying time of year as well as we should be getting schedules for the spring right now. Which means we cant plan anything else yet
