Humidity might be a factor, although Google shows all kinds of results on that.

I sympathize with the knee issue. I only ever had one bad arthritis attack affecting my knee; but the symptoms came on as I boarded a 20 hour flight from Australia with no medication. Memorably miserable.

Yeah, I'm not convinced that humidity per se is a cause.  In fact, I love the humidity, especially when playing tennis, because it keeps my muscles looser and, when they don't spasm or tighten up, they don't hit the nerves in my shoulder/neck or lower back, where I have stenosis and sciatica.

What I was referring to is the usage of a/c & how it interacts with the humidity.  Most places use a/c to cut the humidity as much as to cool things off and the cold air bursts are terrible for arthritis, especially when its blowing directly on you.  Couple that with going in and out, repeatedly, from a/c'ed restaurants, bars, trains, etc and ouch.

Intermittence is a perplexing phenomenon.    I have had totally unrelated bouts of flattening sciatica that resisted treatment and then disappeared.   (Thankfully, for some dozen years now.)  And a knee that several of our supposedly best orthopedists say can only be resolved by replacement, or frequent steroid shots.    Two years ago, I had extreme pain walking two blocks to the store,   But/and after fairly religious use of stationery bike, my knee pain is essentially gone.   The docs can't explain it.    The failure is there, but the pain is gone.    I'm not complaining....

I shouldn't complain because in my thirties and forties the attacks were much worse. Sometimes couldn't walk. Now they're just slightly uncomfortable -- and of course (not counting the hip replacement), there's never been any treatment except the same pain killers.

I needed to get some bloodwork done. Get in with the phlebotomist. Tell her I have really small veins and she needs to use a butterfly needle. She informs me she's been doing this for 30 years. Okay. She jabs the absolute hell out of me. Worst ever. And, of course collapses the vein. Tries again. Fails. I ask if she used a butterfly. Answer-"no-I've never needed to before". Seriously?!?! Next poke (in the other arm 'cause hey) works fine. Pardon me--but, stupid bitch 🤬.

It's amazing how bad some of them are.  And then others who don't even leave a mark.
