Wilfrid
An ironic injury. I was recently gifted a small massage ball which soothes things like back and neck twinges. Last night it rolled under the bed. I lifted the bed to retrieve it and hurt my back doing so. I am now applying the massage ball to the painful spot on my lower back. I have had worse back injuries and can move about. It will just make all the cooking and cleaning for the holiday slightly more difficult.

Originally prescribed by my ortho for an achilles heel problem, it really dulls back pain without oral pain killers. We keep a tube in town and country. All good thoughts. Wilfrid
I haven’t come across that. Managing with ibuprofen.
small h
It doesn’t work very well for me, but H swears by it.

Sneakeater
Celine Dion comes down with something called Stiff Person's Syndrome and the disease is so horrible you can't even make the obvious joke about it.
small h
I swear I've seen this same goddamn breakfast strata article every goddamn year. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/21/dining/breakfast-strata-recipe.html
bloviatrix
Another agonizingly long drive to Atlantic Beach for a wedding last evening (Manhattan to a couple of miles east of JFK for the non-locals). June's 2-hour drive to the same location was shorter than last night's 2.5 hour drive. And to add insult, there was traffic on the drive home too (will the construction on the Van Wyck ever end?)! If you need to get to JKF in the evening either allot 3 hours for driving or take the train.

Mad last minute scramble to create something alternative when the kids refused to eat it. (Adults weren't awfully enamored with it either.)
small h
I have no love for winter squash, so I'd never make it. But I have nothing against breakfast strata as a category. I just hate seeing the same lazy-ass article dusted off and recycled over and over.
Orik
Quote Shredding the butternut squash instead of cubing it ensures there’s a little bit of squash in every bite. No escape.

Behemoth
I like Potimarron/Hokkaido squash roasted with halloumi and thyme, something like that. Butternut needs a lot of help though. eta I think I made a strata once...?
Sneakeater
I like Sean Sherman’s Roasted Winter Squash and Turnip with an Agave Glaze quite a bit.
Evelyn
I tried that strata too. Once. This is my go to for breakfast/brunch...John Currence's Day Old Croissant and Sausage "Bread Pudding".
