She only tested because I got it afterwards. Kids both had it and were asymptomatic. Ironically I was the only one who had a booster in the last year and had the worst (though still mild) symptoms. My brother was the only vaccinated one in his family (I think two doses, but no booster available yet), and he had the worst symptoms. The doctor finally gave him remdesivir because he just wasn't getting better. It was unfortunate because it only encouraged his spouse not to get vaccinated (apparently she's not anti-vax, but is vax-hesitant. But I'm pretty sure she's anti vax - her parents and siblings are). We are not so poorly here. Just flu-y. I'm hoping my ears clear up soon. My parent no longer has a fever, but is still worse off than I. Worse cough, sorer throat. But better today than yesterday, so I'll take that as a win!
StephanieL
The tires I needed to order came into my local Costco Tire Center on Tuesday, but no appointments to actually put them on were available until next Friday. So I can only run short errands until then because I still have the spare on my car. Waiting that long is a real pain, but I've been ripped off at other tire stores and at least I know Costco is honest and has reasonable prices.

Update: apparently the tires I ordered were "run flat" tires, meaning that they're designed to be OK at speeds up to 50 mph when you get a flat. However, all 4 tires have to be this type--you can't have a mix. The tire guys told me to order this type without knowing what I had on the front, so when I went to get them put on I was told that they weren't compatible with my not "run flat" front tires. Cue a reorder and a refund of the now useless run flats. With any luck, this will all get resolved by tomorrow. Still driving on that spare....

StephanieL
Maybe it's this? 😡 Tires still have not come in. I checked at 4:30 and the guy said his computer was still saying "Same Day delivery". Oh well.
voyager
Sutter Health conglomerate has sucked the life out of many small health organizations in California. Takeover, slice and dice, lose long time professionals, cut service. We waited an hour and a half for blood draws this morning. Someone was "out sick". Incompetent fill-ins. Once in the back room, all smooth, and results posted within a couple of hours. But an hour and a half to get there? We have moved as much of our health care to UC.
StephanieL
Kugel preparation = shredded potatoes and onions all over the kitchen. I'm sure I'll be finding bits over the weeks to come. At least the food processor made shredding 5 pounds of potatoes a breeze.
StephanieL
You know how when you bring in your car for an oil change or minor issue and the mechanic finds a much larger problem? Well, a plumber crawling under our house to fix a pipe confirmed that we never really got our small rat infestation under control. Time to start interviewing exterminators who do rodent exclusion. "No thank you" is a viable response to any treatment or procedure. So are second opinions.

StephanieL
I came down with a cold last Sunday evening, and between the sore throat and the endless hacking (my usual MO during the later stages), my voice was in no shape for me to be able to sing with my chorus at our concerts this weekend. All that rehearsing for nothing.
