Sneakeater
So the question remains open: in his great four-album run in the early '70s -- one of the best runs by anyone ever, maybe THE best -- was Rod putting one over on us?
hollywood
Stewart's talent was apparent to my ears as early as his appearance on the two Jeff Beck albums he sang on. Around the turn of the century he did seem to have a vocal node issue. And he has 8 kids by 3 wives and other liaisons. He has obvious reasons to try to extend his career as long as possible. That said, it's hard to reconcile his early talent and his later career. I am reminded of Elvis and his career moves. At least he didn't attempt to become a film star. Wilfrid
For years I couldn't accept that the same man wrote "Ol' Man River" and "High on a Hill Stood a Lonely Goatherd," but I admit I was wrong.
Wilfrid
Listening to Laura Nyro obsessively this week, no reason. But she was a teenager when she wrote “Stoney End.” Really. I mean wow.

Sneakeater
I'm listening to a lot of Wilhelm Kempff Schubert. Some of my favorite music in the world. So Kempff. He got a lot of shit from New York critics back in the day. But they were technocrats: his style of playing didn't dazzle, didn't call enough attention to what the player's fingers were doing. But to me, this is EXACTLY how this music -- deep and interior, but lyrical -- should sound. I think the same about his late Brahms. Beethoven, now that's a house with many mansions. But this Schubert: I'm in absoule heaven.
hollywood
Who knew? The Hold Steady are still around. New record in March. Not so sure about that bridge.
Wilfrid
Oh cool. I haven’t seen Galen in years. Hopefully he doesn’t need to bartend any more.
Wilfrid
It may seem preposterous that John Lydon is seeking to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest, but his song is actually rather touching. It's inspired by caring for his wife, now suffering from Alzheimer's.
