bloviatrix Posted April 15, 2025 Author Posted April 15, 2025 We were just the three of us for the first night at the boy's request. Last night we had 4 guests and it was actually a lot of fun. Everyone got along and there were a lot of digressions and silliness. For the second year in a row, the boy was an enormous help with prep. He made all the bake goods - coconut cookies (these are not macaroons!), almond flour brownies, and Roden's Gateau L'Orange. And his matzo balls were well flavored and perfectly textured. I started working with him a bit on knife skills with some chopping. My annoyance is that my husband forgot to put back in the fridge the sweet and sour meatballs I made. And I'm still not even sure why he took them out in the first place. Quote
voyager Posted April 15, 2025 Posted April 15, 2025 Here is a flourless, no added fat recipe for a fabulous chocolate cookie I've made for decades. (I use Hershey's natural cocoa.) Essentially an unfilled macaron. Suitable for many dietary proscriptions. Idiot-proof. Quote

bloviatrix Posted April 15, 2025 Author Posted April 15, 2025 Speaking of eggs, based on my notes from prior years I made sure to buy 5 doz in advance of the holiday. But I used so many that I sent the boy out to buy an addition 2 dozen. Quote

bloviatrix Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 I absolutely loathe Passover. Every year starting 10 days before all of my discussions with friends focus on how we hate this holiday. The turnover is an absolute bitch. And despite all my lists and organization I'm constantly searching for utensils and kitchen items. And my kitchen wasn't ready until after 4 this afternoon when I really wanted to get started last night. Just kill me. I'm hosting first night. 5 adults, 2 kids. Soup is cooling. Aioli is done (kosher for passover mayo is an abomination). Kid made almond flour brownies. And the orange's for Roden's Gateau L'orange should be beeping momentarily. Brisket needs to be made overnight in crock pot. And chicken needs to prepped. Quote
Anthony Bonner Posted April 1 Posted April 1 why is kfp Mayo a thing? Its eggs and oil, maybe some lemon juice or mustard? or am I missing something? Quote
bloviatrix Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 The store bought stuff is disgusting because of the fat they use. Kosher for passover mustard is imitation. And I've never never managed to make a mayo with out mustard that didn't break. So for the second year in a row I'm thrilled about the aioli. Quote
StephanieL Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I had a little trouble loosening the sponge cake from the tube pan, so it looks like it has mange on the outside. Tastes great though, and rose superbly. @bloviatrix, you could be a heathen like me and just make sure that there are no obviously chametz-based ingredients in the food. 😉 The Best Foods mayo & Gulden's mustard are staying in the fridge. StephanieL Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I have to remember to not make an all-prune compote for Passover. I love it, but it doesn't love me. Quote
