Been thru both, impressed with neither, although they do have the range of food and cultural things that come with being around college towns.  Cant say I gave either much of a chance.  As small h said, if you wish to go to Asheville, my help is available.

If what's taking you there is going down I-95, get off at Richmond, Va.   That's a city I can spend time in (& have).

Isn't Chapel Hill the most interesting of the triangle towns? I mostly spent my time down there college/post-college so been a long time.  

I was in Richmond for a soccer tournament early last month - and yeah I agree 100% with Steve. Def worth the visit.

I've only spent time in Greensboro, as most of what's left of my family is there. Decent BBQ a couple times.

And this...

When we head down for Thanksgiving this year, Richmond, VA will be our stopping point for 2 nights.

In Richmond I had an awesome time at an indie record store with AB^2 explaining to him what Vinyl is and the idea of buying an "album" and how we would go and buy used "CDs" after practice in high school.  It was a revelation for him. 

Then he told me "no that Pavement shirt you want me to wear isn't cool"
