the next time i will also sprinkle the baking powder over the flour prior to mixing it together.


I usually sift my baking powder and soda even though I don't bother with sifting flour, as they (especially soda) can be lumpy. Cocoa, too. Then I whisk the dry ingredients together.

Maybe a silly question, but, do you have an accurate oven thermometer placed inside your oven? I know I have recently had issues with the temp. my oven professes to be. In reality, it has been 25 degrees off the actual temperature. Just something to consider...
