Las Vegas dining updates please!

Recommended Posts

My girlfriends and I are getting ready for our annual trip to Vegas! They've picked the new Wynn Encore to stay at this year and I'm in charge of restos. I'm thinking about maybe doing a chef's table one night but not sure where all have them? Also needing a second night restaurant and a good late lunch spot for the last day.

We've eaten at quite a few places over the years- Fix, Bartollata, DavidBurke, DBBistro, B&B, Bouchon, Mon Amie Gabi, etc.

I think the favorites have been DB Bistro, DavidBurke and Bouchon

We can't go '$ no object' this year but would still like to get dressed and get a wonderful meal.

Your recommendations are appreciated!

I talked to DB today and they offer the 'Taste of Wynn" early bird menu at 5:30, 6, 6:30. We are going at 6 on Monday. As much as I truly value Evelyn's advice, the DB menu worked best for us given h

The 'cue place I was remembering at the Rio is the Vegas branch of RUB, which I thought was pretty good. I still haven't been to their NYC branch.

Evelyn always seems to have the best advice so I would go with her thoughts.

That said, I was in Vegas last month and have pretty much covered all the places you have, Wendy. One that you may have missed...Wing Lei at Wynn. We've gone a few times and they do an amazing Tasting Menu. Another idea might be Bar Charlie (Charlie Trotter at Palazzo) assuming everyone in your group likes sushi.

I know you're more interested in the kitchen table experience but I can't help you out on that one.

Have fun !

Bellagio is still the best buffet breakfast from what I've heard. If it's just one or two, sit at the bar and you skip the line.

I usually get an eggwhite/crab/shrimp/spinach omelet, very low cal and delicious. Also some lox. (and some bacon, there goes the lo cal).

Little Miss Foodie: I was just looking over Travel & Leisure's "50 Best New U.S. Restaurants," and they have one rec in Las Vegas: Raku. They don't seem to have a website, but there's more online:

Las Vegas Weekly

Urban Spoon (with links to other reviews online)

Vegas Musings (blog with photos)

I read a bunch of the material online and did not see one negative word. Homemade tofu? Sign me up.

I'm about to be in Vegas for my fourth annual rock climbing trip with my friend Greg, and this time I'm trying to be on a budget. I'm flying on miles, and though we're staying at the Red Rocks casino, that's the only expensive thing I plan to do. I'm thinking about good cheap eats, no Michael Mina prices this year, and I've already decided we can check out Kilroy's burgers one night (there's a branch really close to Red Rocks), and I'm hoping to convince Greg to head to Lotus of Siam for another. I just looked over the casino's dining options and was shocked to see a branch of Texas institution the Salt Lick at the Red Rocks Casino! Anyone been? I'm looking forward to checking that one out. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

The branch yof Kilroy's is the original. Great burgers, video poker, locals atmosphere. Salt Lick is pretty good. But, if you really want barbecue, Memphis Championship Barbecue on Rainbow is better. Hatchi, the sushi bar at Red Rock is pretty good. It has an extensive small plate menu-so you can eat well for a relatively inexpensive amount. Just down Charleston @ Rampart is Nora's wine bar. Lots of small plates and good wines by the glass. There's Rosemary's on West Sahara (about 4 miles to the East). They also have a good bar/small plates menu (locals favorite). And, about 8 miles to the east on Spring Mountain, Raku, a Japanese izykaya...another excellent spot for dinner (even though it's an izykaya--make a reservation, it's a very small resto).

Wow, thanks! I'd love to have Japanese, but my friend will be hard to convince. Rosemary's is another option I forgot about, never been.

I had decent 'cue in a casino last year, was it the Rio? It was a little off the strip in a casino that had some ridiculous show featuring women in balloons in its atrium or something... another branch of a good barbecue place from elsewhere. Maybe we'll try Memphis Championship.

I second Evelyn's recco of both Rosemary's and Nora's. The latter is very close to Red Rocks (you could actually walk, not that anyone would). I've also had some great meals at the Mayflower, which is a little farther away at Sahara and...Rainbow? Decatur? (Evelyn???).

Gone.. they moved to the Palazzo and went under :( . Supposedly, they are trying to reopen somewhere off-Strip. But, 'enviroment' for opening a restaurant around here is pretty unfriendly at the moment.

Hash House is awful. AWFUL. Not only was the food simply not good, the whole experience was depressing. Huge servings of bad food, intended to be shared family style (or so we thought) were being ordered as individual entrees by very big (but not tall) people. It was like the diner of the living dead.

That's really too bad about the Mayflower.
