We had a very nice dinner at Pied Au Terre the other night. Fantastic service, really lovely staff

The tasting menu was 95£ and we each had the wine pairing- I had the classic and TDoW had the modern (can't remember what they called it). Each dish was very very good with the foie gras with smoked eel consume being my favorite. Wines were extremely well paired and the somm was nice to let me guess the pours and spend time talking about them.

They knew it was our anniversary and had little notes on our dessert dish- old fashion but still sweet.

And upon asking we were presented with our menus and individual wine pairings upon leaving. I'd go again and I'd sure as heck check out their more casual sister resto

Additionally we at at Hix (on Brewery) and Hawksmore Spitafield and thought both were great. Hix has an amazing bar downstairs and has some very interesting game on the menu (Squeaker). Hawksmore's porterhouse steak had excellent flavor and the sides (mac & cheese) were delish. Also a very impressive cocktail menu.

The Golden Hind for fish and chips was good, not the best IMHO and we preferred the haddock to the cod.

Dock Kitchen on a work-related trip. Nice space but they need a better exhaust system. Starter was roasted winter squash with feta, cobnuts, quinoa, greens and feta. Greens needed to be better stemmed and the cob nuts were missing entirely. Tasty though. Second dish was a green curry with fish and clams. Too much cilantro ruined the dish for me, and I like cilantro. Didn't taste of much else. On the whole a little too much posh friend's dinner party without the clever guests. Service was friendly. Should have lobbied harder for Hereford Road, but I like trying new things.

Green Man and French Horn -- new natural wine bar on St Martin's lane, specialising in Loire wines.

By the people behind terroirs. They have a dish of girolles, artichokes and a warm egg yolk that is wonderful.

It is so perfectly suited to my tastes that I am almost suspicious.

And I just started a new job only ten minutes away.

Fairuz

3 Blandford street

Just around the corner from Durrants (where we usually stay). Just lovely, tasty, scrumptious Lebanese food.

Grilled aubergine salad with tomato, spring onions, garlic and pomegranate sauce. Heavenly.

And #49:

LAHM MISHWI

Tender lamb cubes, grilled on skewers.

Breads are wonderful.

Probably the best Lebanese I've been to outside of Lebanon.

Very lucky indeed, then. Just stumbled out of the hotel last weekend for lunch and got in (before going to the Bronze at the Royal Academy: very good, but they do pack them in even when it's tickets only).

Also went to Zoom for a quick bite. Really good calves liver & bacon. Nothing fancy but competent.

Our treat meal out was Quilon. Well, it was a big disappointment. This tasting menu (can't see it on-line) was just so bland. G was there before and has sung its praises as has mongo.....I wasn't by myself on this one, G totally agreed this meal was underwhelming. I'd have gone for another Fairuz meal without any hesitation. I don't like Quilon's dining room either.

Yes, Quilon's dining room is terrible. My current favourite indian is Trishna which is also in Blandford st.
