i should have probably read this review first; oh well. i’ve made only one recipe from indian-ish so far, and that was the snack with tapioca pearls. 

i’m a big fan of yamuna devi’s the art of vegetarian indian cooking; it was one of the first cookbooks i bought.

When I was growing up, there was a couple in our temple where the husband was a very tall white guy and the wife was a very short Indian woman.  She was one of the regular Torah readers on Shabbat and the high holidays.  We'd thought she was a convert, but it turned out that her father was the chief rabbi (or another high-up rabbi) of the Mumbai Jewish community.
