Fertilized eggs! Balut! (Which I think are traditionally those of ducks.)

I once attended, and took pictures at, a balut eating contest.  It was at the Hester Street Fair a half dozen or so years ago.  It was fairly gross.

For sure. Like a cross between hard-boiled egg and duck pate, but with feathers. I first had balut at Tuk Tuk on First Avenue along with Cabrales and I bet that was more than ten years ago.

ETA: Oh god, it was pre-Mouthfuls so more than 18 years ago. I need to stop asking myself those sorts of questions.

No sooner do I note that Pete Wells is arguably the longest serving regular restaurant critic at the Times than I see Platty is hanging up his bib after 22 years at New York magazine.
